new brunswick: Carleton County History - 05/01/07 09:25 AM
Established in 1784, New Brunswick was at first divided into eight counties by the Territorial Division Act, 1786.
Sometime between 1831 and 1833, Carleton County was set off from York County and a Shire Town (county seat) was established in the Town of Woodstock. Today, Woodstock is by far the largest municipality in Carleton County and is also home of the Woodstock First Nation. You'll still find the Old Carleton County Courthouse, built in 1833.

new brunswick: Robust New Brunswick Real Estate Market - 04/26/07 01:47 AM
First quarter 2007 residential MLS® sales are up in New Brunswick's three largest real estate boards, Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John.
The residential real estate market is certainly robust. Moncton continues to be the largest market. Saint John is the new leader in YTD average sale price. Fredericton slips to third in average sale price? (I caution that average price information can be useful in establishing trends over time, but does not indicate actual prices in centres comprised of widely divergent neighborhoods or account for price differential between geographic areas. new brunswick: Chinese proverb & Home Energy Bills - 03/05/07 04:35 AM
There is a supposedly Chinese proverb that goes:
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Well, I'd like to modify that adage to preface my take on the New Brunswick government's recent decision to not follow through with a rebate of the 8% tax which every New Brunswick household pays on their home heating bill.
"Give a New Brunswicker a rebate of the 8% tax paid on home heating and you've reduced his/her bill by 8% for one year. Teach a New Brunswicker that if he/she spends … (0 comments)

new brunswick: Xeriscaping in Moncton, New Brunswick - 02/12/07 09:39 AM
Right up front I'll admit to blatant self promotion with me in the picture. This is my front yard in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. All plants on the curb side of the fence, which is actually part of the street, are drought resistant perennials. And all are hardy in my 4a zone. Once established, they require no watering, fertilizer or pesticides. And surprisingly very little weeding. In fact some of them are very aggressive. Artemesia, sedum, paeonia, aster, dianthus, hemerocallis, thyme and coreopsis are just a few of the species growing in my xeriscaped front yard.
What has all this to do with real estate? More and more of today's home buyers and … (2 comments)

new brunswick: The New Brunswick Botanical Garden - 02/05/07 06:23 AM
The New Brunswick Botanical Garden is a largely undiscovered jewel in New Brunswick. It's located in the northwest corner of the Province, not far from the Quebec and Maine borders. Whether you are a gardener (novice or experienced) or you just enjoy nature, I highly recommend a visit to the New Brunswick Botanical Gardens.

new brunswick: About New Brunswick - 02/05/07 01:37 AM
New Brunswick, the largest of Canada's three Maritime provinces, is nestled under Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula and beside the State of Maine. Its northern border also includes the Restigouche River and the Baie des Chaleurs.
The eastern boundary is entirely coastal - the Gulf of St Lawrence and Northumberland Strait - and delightfully dotted with warm, sandy beaches...the warmest salt water north of Virginia.
Chignecto Bay and the 24-kilometre (15-mile) wide Isthmus of Chignecto, which connects New Brunswick to Nova Scotia, form part of New Brunswick's southern border.
The rest of it is the Bay of Fundy. Its tides - the highest … (0 comments)

This year's international theme is 'Fish for Tomorrow', in acknowledgment of the importance of fish and fisheries to all people. This theme is one that touches almost everyone, because healthy and functional inland … (0 comments)

new brunswick: New Brunswick Residential MLS® Report for 2006 - 02/05/07 01:11 AM
Once again the Moncton area leads the Province in residential unit sales and dollar volume while maintaining the lowest % increase in average price.
After Northern New Brunswick, the Moncton area has the most affordable average price.
