beaver creek: Vail Valley Daily Photo - The Day After the Mountain Closed - 04/15/13 01:30 AM

THE DAY AFTER THE MOUNTAIN CLOSED -
Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Mountain closed for the season yesterday.  Closing Day revellers found 12" to 15" of new snow and crystal clear blue skies - until 11:00am.  Then, near blizzard conditions closed the back bowls and drove many off the mountain.  This is a typical closing day reminicent of 18 of 20 past closing days.  We'll most likely have FEET of new snow now through May - another reason you won't find many Locals in the office for awhile.  The beach sounds pretty good right now!

VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: RECYCLING IN RED CLIFF
A little ways up the road from Vail on the other side of Battle Mountain Pass towards Leadville is the metropolis of Red Cliff.  This little Town owes it's existence to the Gilman Mine which has long since closed.  While a good deal past it's prime, Red Cliff offers a shot of Counter Culture to the starched and pressed world class resorts near by.  I had the occasion to visit this little burg which is set back in a mountain cove surrounded by steep cliffs last weekend.  The Third Annual Mountain … (6 comments)

beaver creek: Vail Valley Daily Photo: A Sunday Afternoon on Trout Pond Lane - 10/02/12 09:27 AM

VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO:  A SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON TROUT POND LANE
The normal visitor to Vail comes up for a week, checks into a hotel, and spends the day pounding down the slopes and the evenings dining and partying.  It remains to we locals to find the little pockets of beauty that are in profusion throughout the Vail Valley.  Trout Pond Lane is one of those spots.  Located at the end of a quiet lane in one of our many little subdivisions outside of the hustle and bustle of Vail Village, this dreamy pond is known by few and … (2 comments)

VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: NICE DAY FOR GOLF
With the summer winding down and fall off-season approaching quickly, it's nice to take a little time to enjoy what this wonderful valley has to offer.  The weather has been absolutely terrific and the fall colors have been spectacular!  Incidently, it's time to get your Epic Pass (www.Snow.com) and, if you are amoung the lucky owners in the Vail Valley, time to think about turning on your heat!  No predictions yet about the coming ski season but the Skunk Cabbage is reasonably high!

Vail, CO Daily Photo - The Day After the Mountain Closed
It doesn't take a lot of time living in the Vail Valley to realize that Summer doesn't come to the Colorado mountains with the close of the ski season!  More often than not we residents are treated with a lot more winter following closing day and this morning was no exception.  But...how many places can you be treated to scenes like this on your way to work?  Yep, it's worh it.

beaver creek: Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Christmas Day Hay Barn - 12/30/11 12:08 PM

Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Christmas Day Hay Barn -
Just about 10 miles up Brush Creek, a little past Adam's Rib Ranch, but not quite all the way to Sylvan Lake, sits this rustic hay barn.  I have the opportunity to dirve by this old barn once or twice a year.  Every time I do I wonder about the human drama it has witnessed for about 100 years or so.  It never seems to change - nor does it ever stay the same.  For instance, the log farm house up on the hill behind the barn....it's not there any … (1 comments)

Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Moon Over Mountain Star -
While on a recent architectural photo shoot in the Vail Valley's Mountain Star subdivision I was blessed with the rising of this fabulous full moon.  Over the years I have been working with a camera I have found few instances when the timing of a moon shot - cloud cover, ambient light, color of the sky, and earth surroundings - have meshed.  This was one of those times.  So here we have an iconic moon to the East and the lights of the Eagle Valley and Beaver Creek to the South. … (3 comments)

Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Although It's Been Said Many Times, Many Ways....
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all.  May this day be filled with family, fun, thankfulness, food, and football - not to mention a few turns on the mountain if you are here in the Vail Valley.  Christmas day has dawned clear, blue and frosty in the Vail Valley.  What a wonderful place to be during the holiday season!  Hope you can make it up!

beaver creek: Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - A View of Things in the Vail Valley - 12/24/11 09:57 AM

Vail, Coloraod Daily Photo - A View of Things in the Vail Valley -  While the snow cover is thinner in the Vail Valley than we are used to this time of year, reports from skiers coming off the mountain on this Christmas Eve are very favorable! Variety of open slopes is somewhat limited but what is open is in wonderful condition, thanks to Vail Resort's top flight Mountain Maintenance team.  Unfortunately, with no new snow in the forecast, these pro's are going to have their skills tested before the high Christmas Season crowds go home.
And crowds there are!  Early … (4 comments)

beaver creek: Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Silent Night - 12/19/11 05:38 AM

Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Silent Night
Castle Peak is an imposing feature that lords over the entire lower Eagle Valley and is prominent enough to be home to every television/radio/telephone tower between the top of Vail Pass and Glenwood Canyon.  It looks like a medieval castle during the daytime and even more so on a clear moonlit night.  I wish I knew the name of the conical peak to the left in this photo.  It's obviously the cone of an ancient volcano that must have been quite a site in it's day.  The entire lower Eagle Valley shows … (7 comments)

beaver creek: Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - 70 to Zero in 4 seconds - 12/09/11 05:03 AM

Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - 70 to Zero in 4 Seconds - Last week was World Cup Week on the Birds of Prey Downhill Course in Beaver Creek.  The ringing of cow bells by the Swiss in the stands (who were feeling no pain) could not override the fact that this guy had just come through the finish gate at well over 70 MPH just seconds before.  If you haven't seen a World Class downhill in person, you owe it to yourself to come to Beaver Creek in the first week of every December. You will never forget the experience … (1 comments)

beaver creek: Vail Valley Daily Photo: Back Roads - 11/21/11 12:58 AM

Vail Valley Daily Photo:  Back Roads - Many thousands of visitors come to the Vail Valley in both winter and summer. I'd venture to guess that 99% of these visitors only get to know the environs of Vail Village or Beaver Creek.
There is a lot more to experience here if you just kick back and drink in the back roads.

Vail Valley Daily Photo: A Study in the Realtionship Between Time, Man, and Nature
I guess this photo of a settler's cabin just outside Eagle could also be intitled "When you plant a house in a Cottonwood grove, you have Cottonwoods".  Every time I drive by this item of local history I am reminded of the summer I planted a few Blue Spruce trees a little too close to my house.....had to move them at no little effort about 10 years later.
Although in this case the builder of this cabin likely didn't plant these Cottonwoods too close to … (1 comments)

beaver creek: A Vail Valley Contemporary Remodel - 11/12/11 03:30 AM
Vail Valley Contemporary Remodel -  2625 A Bald Mountain Road is perhaps one of the best overall values in a 4 bedroom residence in the upper Vail Valley!  This home has been recently remodeled in a dramatic contemporary manner that sparkles with good taste and style.  The kitchen is especially wonderful with it's exquisite designer cabinetry and stainless steel counter tops.  The home is beautifully furnished throughout.  Furniture is negotiable.   Views are dramatic and sun filled, spanning the Vail Valley from the bottom of Vail Pass to the east and to Vail Village and beyond to the west.  In summer, … (0 comments)

Vail Luxury Real Estate: A New Listing at the Westin Riverfront Hotel and Spa
Once in a great while a property comes on the market that is really special!  Westin Penthouse 350 is just one of those terrific properties.  The excitement starts with the spectacular Westin and Riverfront Hotel and Spa located at the base of Beaver Creek and just 30 steps (I counted them!) from the Riverfront Gondola servicing Bachelor Gulch and Beaver Creek ski areas.  The Westin Riverfront has won 1st and 2nd in the Conde' Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards over the last two years!

Vail Valley Daily Shot:  Seems fitting for Holloween Night!
I was finishing up a shoot on a new listing last night in Mountain Star -one of our most spectacular areas and just as I was wrapping up the exterior shots the moon poked through a heavy overcast and covered the subdivision with a beautiful, cold light.  When I processed the shot I couldn't decide whether to use it or not.....I looked a little spooky!   So this may be the only place anyone will see it.    OCTOBER 31, 2011
