A WINTER MORNING IN THE EAGLE VALLEY - I've found inspiration to feed my photography addiction difficult to find over the last few months of grey/white days here in the Valley. There are lots of skiing shots out there but somehow these shots have a "been there, done that" feeling for me....not that it's not great to be up doing a few turns, It's just that I've photographed and seen photographed just about every imaginable iteration of the wonderful sport of skiing. This is not something that gets the juices flowing. So, it was with true grit and determination (2 comments)
VAIL'S LEGENDARY BACK BOWLS WILL BE OPEN SATURDAY, DEC. 22. Over 2' of snow has fallen in the last 5 days, infinitely improving the attitudes of Vailites and visitors alike - just in time for the Holidays. By Saturday, skiable terrain on the largest ski resort in the United States will increase to 2500 acres with the opening of Vail's Legindary Sun Up and Sun Down bowls. The Snow Gods are have definitely changed their attitudes about Vail and have decided to grant us a little of the snow they held back last year. It's time to make those (2 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: A LITTLE NEW SNOW! With the eminent opening of Vail Mountain only a week away, any evidence of a little new snow is welcome! What a difference a day makes! Yesterday was shirt sleeve weather. This morning we were treated to several inches on new snow on the Mountain with more promised over the next few days. Mother Nature never seems to fail us. Maybe soon we will have a few more occupants in Lionshead Mall than an "Official Car" and statue depicting what we'd all like to be doing! (1 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: IT'S A START Well, I guess some things have got to start off slow. October in Vail is always a slow starter - this year has been nothing to write home about either. First measurable snow is always just around Holloween. Then we have one big storm on the 15th of Novermber or so - just enough to open the mountain for Thanksgiving. Next, a few meaninful dumps for the Christmas crowd. January......look out! I'm looking forward to some turns! (2 comments)
VAIL DAILY PHOTO: INDIAN SUMMER - This could be the nicest time of year here in the Vail Valley! While evenings are cool and often touching feezing, days are generally warm and sunny with perfect temperature range. Everywhere green has turned to gold and it's a perfect time to take a walk along Gore Creek. It's a little bit bitter-sweet because you know that each glorious day gets you one more day closer to a time when you won't have days like this for 5 or 6 long months. Oh well, the mountain opens in 5 weeks! (4 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: A LITTLE HELO HELP A huge heavy lift helocopter drops a cable carrier assembly onto the top of a lift tower which itself was dropped into place just minutes before. This was the amazing show yesterday as Vail Resorts hurried to complete the installation of the brand new high speed state-of-the-art Gondola replacing the old four passenger Vista Bahn chair lift out of Vail Village. Towers and assemblies from bottom to top of the mountain were installed in one day! The massive carrier cable roll is set to be delivered to the site today on (1 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: RECYCLING IN RED CLIFF A little ways up the road from Vail on the other side of Battle Mountain Pass towards Leadville is the metropolis of Red Cliff. This little Town owes it's existence to the Gilman Mine which has long since closed. While a good deal past it's prime, Red Cliff offers a shot of Counter Culture to the starched and pressed world class resorts near by. I had the occasion to visit this little burg which is set back in a mountain cove surrounded by steep cliffs last weekend. The Third Annual Mountain (6 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: FIRST SNOW First Snow is always an exciting time here in the Vail Valley. It confirms the realization that it's time to put away the golf clubs and hiking boots and start dusting off the the ol' boards (or board as it may be). While opening day at Vail is not until just before Thanksgiving, there is always a race between Loveland Basin, Keystone, Arapaho, and Copper Mountain to see who can be the first Colorado ski area to open. Some years this has been won before Holloween. It's still pretty warm...doesn't look like it's (2 comments)
VAIL VALLEY DAILY PHOTO: NICE DAY FOR GOLF With the summer winding down and fall off-season approaching quickly, it's nice to take a little time to enjoy what this wonderful valley has to offer. The weather has been absolutely terrific and the fall colors have been spectacular! Incidently, it's time to get your Epic Pass (www.Snow.com) and, if you are amoung the lucky owners in the Vail Valley, time to think about turning on your heat! No predictions yet about the coming ski season but the Skunk Cabbage is reasonably high! (4 comments)
Vail, CO Daily Photo - The Day After the Mountain Closed It doesn't take a lot of time living in the Vail Valley to realize that Summer doesn't come to the Colorado mountains with the close of the ski season! More often than not we residents are treated with a lot more winter following closing day and this morning was no exception. But...how many places can you be treated to scenes like this on your way to work? Yep, it's worh it. Photo: Nilsson Images
Vail CO Daily Photo - Closing Day 3" of new snow! Too little and too late. Over the last 50+ years I have skied on closing day, I can count on one hand the wonderful, sunny closing days that make the year end celebration memorable! We normally suffer from cold, gloomy weather on closing day and today is no exception. Not to worry. It's a great day to stoke up the fireplace and finish up that book I haven't had time for. The weatherman says "70 degrees and clear skies for Monday". Figures. No complaints! Photo: NilssonImages.com (1 comments)
The Bald Mountain Road House, Vail, CO - One of East Vail's Best Real Estate Offerings! Once in a great while I have the opportunity to list a residence that just seems to have everything going for it. The location is spectacular, the views and sun are outstanding, the condition is immaculate, and the price is "just right". The Bald Mountain Road House in scenic East Vail is just that kind of property. This dramatic, 4 Bedroom home has been lovingly updated from top to bottom and features new intereior finishes throughout capped by a spectacular kitchen with top (0 comments)
Vail, CO Daily Photo - Wrapping Up the Ski Season - From this photo taken yesterday afternoon, you can see definite signs that the 2011-2012 ski season in Vail is rapidly drawing to a close. Last year on this date the Gore Range was still blanketed with heavy snow and we still had 10 more deep powder days....closing day celebrations on the mountain were somewhat hindered by a major spring blizzard that dumped another 10" on an already record setting base. This year the story is different. The Gore is looking a lot like it does in June/July and (1 comments)
Vail, CO Daily Photo - Do You See the Cat? I took this photo just because I have a wierd attraction to windows in barns. When I took this out of the camera for processing I noticed something I didn't see when I snaped the shot. Do you see the cat? The ski season is drawing to an early close this year. While we were kept alive throughout most of the season by "just in time" snow storms and a valiant performance by the snow making crews, we are starting to admit defeat and closing some south facing (1 comments)
Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - An Evening in the Vail Valley I thought I might share this idillic shot taken on a recent evening listing photo shoot. I think it conveys a lot about the many faces of our beautiful area. The real estate market here continues to make a dramatic comeback. In an intercompany email today, Julie Bergsten, Vice President of Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate, reveiled that the Slifer sales staff booked $76,097,500 in new contracts during the month of February just ended. This volume was more of February 2011 which totalled $32,803,500! Further encouragement can be (5 comments)
Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Snow Cats and Mt. of the Holy Cross - The relationship between man and nature is the key factor in the appeal of the wonderful sport of skiing. While we often consciously ignore this innate realationship when stepping into our bindings, sliding down the ramp at the top of the lift, or carving a turn through the white stuff, nature is always there. We must protect this man/nature relationship through good stewardship. To me, this photo brings home the importance of respectng and relating to nature in all we do. skiing: Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Nice Turns!
- 02/15/12 10:32 AM
. Vail Colorado Daily Photo - Nice Turns! Did you ever notice that there are times in life when looking backward is as satifying as looking forward? Some nice linked turns in new powder creates one of those opportunities. What great skiing we are having this week! There are lots of folks in town and real estate activity is "spirited". Warm temperatures and blue sky are the icing on the cake. Photo: Nilsson Images (2 comments)
Vail Valley Daily Photo: If you aren't here now, your're missing out! What more could you ask for? 15+ inches of new snow in the last 7 days (falling mostly at night), blue skys and comfortable temperatures, 90% of the mountain open, great nightlife and lots of family fun. If the low snow reports of the previous month have discouraged you from coming to Vail, let me assure you that the skiing experience here now is as good as it gets. Some of the best skiing, snow, and temperatures are traditionally right around the corner. Get on up here! (4 comments)
Vail Valley Daily Photo: The new 10th Restaurant is a Winner! Vail Mountain has a fabulous new sit-down-order-from-the-menu restaurant that is really impressive! If you are tired of stomping with the heards through slippery lunch counter lines and fighting to keep from having your tray knocked out of your hand in the standard run of the mill mid mountain restaurant, you are going to love the 10th! The restaurant's immediate big time success demonstrates that you won't be the only one. Try this experience on for size: Ski the morning until your legs can't take it any more. (3 comments)
Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Vail Mountain Skiing is much improved! With well over 24" of new snow this last week, skiing in Vail is much improved! Much of Vail's 6,000 acres is now open with the addition of a good deal of the back bowls and many runs in Blue Ski this last week. The weather forecast for this evening (Feb. 2) is calling for 8" to 10" more. Looks like a powder day tomorrow morning! One of way too few this year. If you've been waiting for better conditions to come to Vail, stop waiting. From now on (0 comments)
