Vail CO Daily Photo - Closing Day 3" of new snow! Too little and too late. Over the last 50+ years I have skied on closing day, I can count on one hand the wonderful, sunny closing days that make the year end celebration memorable! We normally suffer from cold, gloomy weather on closing day and today is no exception. Not to worry. It's a great day to stoke up the fireplace and finish up that book I haven't had time for. Much of Vail's 6,000 acres is now open with the addition of a good deal of the back bowls and many runs in Blue Ski this last week. The weather forecast for this evening (Feb. 2) is calling for 8" to 10" more. Looks like a powder day tomorrow morning! One of way too few this year. Vail, Colorado Daily Photo - Silent Night Castle Peak is an imposing feature that lords over the entire lower Eagle Valley and is prominent enough to be home to every television/radio/telephone tower between the top of Vail Pass and Glenwood Canyon. It looks like a medieval castle during the daytime and even more so on a clear moonlit night. I wish I knew the name of the conical peak to the left in this photo.
