bar jd: Green Water useage -- There are some gray areas that aren't always addressed. - 08/26/07 04:14 PM
The Three Minute GREEN Shower from Douglas Garbe, is not a new idea -- and the post about it brought back memories.
When I was in school, one of our civics classes talked about Americans working with people in SE Asian countries and recommending typical American hygienic habits, such as take a bath once a week, minimum. The people who were being lectured about keeping clean were shocked because their religion had them get into the river for a 'bath' several times a DAY!
But, we didn't always have running water in the house when I was a kid. Tub baths were treats … (10 comments)

bar jd: Mansfield, Missouri -- Gardening for Pretty & Food - 07/29/07 01:48 AM
Have you seen that commercial asking you to have paperless billing and telling you how much a tree contributes to cleaner air?
I'm hoping my abstract growing this year has done some too.  I have a trellis that lost its roses (I am toxic to roses). This year we debated putting a gourd, pumpkin or watermelon vine. We thought about the trouble we could get into with morning glories and honey suckle.  A massive germination of pumpkin seeds in our compost bin made the decision.  And, I think we are too practical -- we would opt for food over flowers. Especially when … (6 comments)

bar jd: Mansfield, Missouri -- Coming Back to the Book - 07/29/07 01:27 AM
Doing the 30 min a day thing and reading while I eat lunch have helped me work my way through two Anne Bronte books this spring/summer.  The bigger collection is in one book with thin pages, like Bible paper.  I'm not sure I want it in the peanut butter territory, but night stand reading will work.  Lunch reading is taking me through a great biography on Quanah Parker.
This week Amazon sent me THE MILLIONAIRE REAL ESTATE INVESTOR and THE MILLIONAIRE REAL ESTATE AGENT (well, I had to order them)   They will add to the studying books -- My Christmas gifts were pruning/grafting books and a tool box … (2 comments)

bar jd: Newbie or Not, I've Found an Excellent Online Networking Book - 07/20/07 01:48 PM
Online Networking for Newbies was released just this week by Angela Smith of Accu-Assist.
Angela is an active moderator on professional forums for virtual assistants and a successful virtual assistant herself. Based in the Midwest, USA, she has a varied range of clients, but is specifically interested in proofreading and editing e-books, newsletters, articles, and Web content. Before the book, Angela was a catalyst for me in business development and planning. She willingly shared her path of figuring out how to launch a business that was not floundering through babysteps, but truly up and running from Day One. Now, she's stepped out … (4 comments)

bar jd: Mansfield, Missouri -- We Had a Family Tradition Begin on July 4, 2007 - 07/06/07 03:17 PM
My cousin's family came to our house for the 4th.  We haven't been able, over the years to spend much time with her family, so we were really excited.  RL got so wound up when I told him they were coming that he just had to leave the office and go for a drive!   He found a produce stand with fresh garden things from the Boot Heel of Missouri -- roasting ears and Black Diamond Watermelon.
The guys all had a bonding time sharing hobbies while my cousin and I traded some family heirlooms.  The garden was looking good and her daughter … (4 comments)

bar jd: Ozarks Spring, Mansfield, Missouri - 3 - 03/31/07 11:41 AM
Someone with a loving hand set shrubs, trees and bulbs so that we have a continuous rotation of something blooming.
The first beauties include the jonquils and the dramatically fragrant hyacinths.  The tulips are peeping out here and there, literally scattered about for bright surprises.
Wild flowers like violets and dutchman's britches (bleeding heart) compete for the tiny view. The FUCHIA of the redbud trees
will be repeated later in the mimosa and double rose of sharon. The peach tree has safely bloomed with no damaging frost or hail. The apples are preparing to imitate that blossom performance.
While the redbuds have … (0 comments)

bar jd: Spring in Mansfield, Missouri -2 - 03/31/07 11:14 AM
Mansfield began Spring and Easter Holiday celebrations today with an Easter Egg Hunt on the Town Square. The Chamber of Commerce made a deal with the Easter Bunny for 2000 eggs, some with a candy inside and some with a toy inside. A New Chapter Book Store, Estrada's Mexican Restaurant, Xanadu Games and Engrave-a-Crete sponsored over 160 prize eggs. There were books, food, games and dollar bills.
The plans have been going on for months. The eggs have been in my dining room since January. The gift certificates and notes have been printed out and made ready. Yesterday, I got caught … (0 comments)

bar jd: Technology -- Take your computer into the Daylight (Savings Time) - 02/24/07 05:31 AM
If you bought a new computer with Windows VISTA installed, the March date for daylight savings time to take over is covered.
Systems using Windows XP and 2003 systems can go to Microsoft to get a patch which will set your machine up to work with the new dates. If you have automatic notices for downloads, this patch has already come to you. Automatic downloads and install have it working for you already.
I do not care for automatic downloads and install, but when I was snooping around about information on Vista, somehow, my computer got switched over to automatic anyway. … (0 comments)
