holidays: Treasures From The Past Make Special Holiday Memories - 12/05/10 01:39 PM
As the folks cram the malls and strip shopping plazas, tussling over the latest and greatest technogeek goodies, the most human-like dolls and figures, the currently cool video games and the finest of clothing, sports gear, cooking appliances and Lord knows what else, there is a quieter, simpler path.
There are treasures to be found for the sensitive and caring shopper who might be looking for something just a bit different, perhaps more thoughtful, more personal.  It probably isn't the place to be looking for a gift for the teenager, or the internet guru all families seem to have.
Consider an institution … (0 comments)

holidays: It's Blowin & Snowin But We Are OPEN! - 12/05/10 03:44 AM
Winter is throwing its early blanket of grim gray skies, sheets of snow squalls, and tricky driving conditions at us.  Holiday shopping traffic, already nuts, is all the more threatening as a result.  BUT we are doing Open Houses in the midst of it!
Why you may say.  I know there is an ongoing debate amongst Agents here on Active Rain and elsewhere, and amongst our clients as well.  But the simple truth is that an occasional, well marketed Open House, will indeed generate some traffic.
OK - all the other stars need to be aligned as well - the house … (5 comments)

holidays: So Much To Eat - What Wine Should I Choose? - 11/25/10 03:14 AM
Just for fun - a partial reprint of an article I did a couple years ago for my wine newsletter - Cuvee.
WINE FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Festive dinners and buffets are an important part of all our Holiday celebrations.  We all have fond memories of congregating with family and friends surrounded by tables laden with traditional foods of every imaginable style and taste.  That is part of the joy of the season.  But this wide variety also makes for difficult decisions on wines.  Short of opening 6 or 8 different kinds of wine the decision is kind of tough.
So what you need … (2 comments)

holidays: The Holidays are a good time to list...Really! - 10/30/10 12:11 AM
This is an exceptionally well-thought-out list of things to think about for our seller prospects.  At a time when there are so many fence-sitters in the real estate market this gives good incentive to move right now.  Add to this some other observations:
Interest rates have never been lower in our lifetimes.  It is arguably likely that they have nowhere to go but up in the future - meaning the longer folks wait, the more likelyhood that it will become more expensive for buyers to buy.
Folks go home for the holidays to visit family and friends.  There may be many out-of-towners … (4 comments)

holidays: Overly Country Christmas, Westmoreland Fairgrounds Greensburg PA - 10/21/10 04:38 AM
There are Holiday festivals of lights and then there is Overly's Country Christmas!  This unbelievable display has been recognized nationally and featured on Good Morning America and in countless articles locally regionally and nationally.  It is recognized as one of the best in America.
Begun as a simple display at the home of Harry Overly for neighborhood children, the scenes have grown dramatically and soon overwhelmed the family's ability to do it on their own.  For the first 35 years it was held at the family's 7 acre estate.  Soon the event was raising funds for Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and … (0 comments)
