Staging is Like a Cement Truck - Vancouver Home Staging
I was sitting in downtown traffic yesterday.  It was a miserable day.  The rain was pouring continual buckets, and I was stuck in 5 o'clock traffic and a construction site.  I looked over, and there was the cheeriest cement truck (sorry, ready-mix truck) I'd ever seen.  Several thoughts crossed my mind, as I sat there, waiting for the officious flag person to switch their hand sign from Stop to Slow...
First, I thought, wow, design is really all around us.  We come across it when we least expect it.  Someone had … (36 comments)

The Secret Garden - Afternoon Tea in Vancouver, B.C.
Who doesn't enjoy the wonderful tradition of Afternoon Tea?  We recently had a lovely day visiting the Kerrisdale area for a little shopping, girl talk and tea.  My mum was over visiting from Vancouver Island, so my sister and I rounded up our teenage daughters, and we made an outing of it.  First stop were the various little boutiques and food shops along 41st, where we found all sorts of unusual items to purchase.  Yes, I even picked up a few unusual accessories for my Home Staging business.
Of course, shopping works … (12 comments)

Dreamy Décor at the Home & Interior Design Show

Modern, elegant, contemporary, laid back, relaxed.  These would be adjectives I’d use to describe the furniture styles at the fall Vancouver Home & Interior Design Show.

One of my favourite displays was Once A Tree Furniture.  Beautiful dining tables constructed of spectacular woods.  I also loved the huge, organic oversized vases they had displayed on the table, one standing up, and one laying down.  Wouldn’t this make a great centerpiece on a table in a staged home?

Urban Barn had some great, new, contemporary art and I … (14 comments)

Foliage, Flowers & More at the Vancouver Home & Interior Design Show

Drinks and appies were on the agenda at the Vancouver Home & Interior Design Show this past Thursday.  As a show opener, Cookworks offered some amazing gourmet appetizers, and a no host bar was set up, to enjoy a nice glass of wine while taking in the sights and sounds at the most recent fall Home Show.

Wendy Casey and I bumped elbows with Glen Peloso (a Canadian design celebrity) and star of “Take This House & Sell It” and “Restaurant Makeover”, while milling around the reception … (14 comments)

Whimsy Can Sell Your House - North Vancouver Home Staging

Recently, we staged a West Coast contemporary home in North Vancouver, B.C.  This home has a youthful, modern appearance, and we wanted to attract a young, urban couple, or young family.  One of the key ways to make this home more appealing, was to add a little bit of whimsy to the decor.  We didn't want to take ourselves too seriously.  We decided to add a little humour to this space.
Above is a photo of the kitchen eat-in area.  Using mid-century modern furniture added a fun, retro feeling.  We … (14 comments)

Clap On... Clap Off!!!
Who doesn't remember that infamous commercial - clap your hands, and the lamp will magically turn on!  Well, I found a really neat lamp the other day.  I promise, it's not a "clap on, clap off" lamp, but it does seem magical.
When the lamp is off, it looks like just any other normal, generic lamp.  However, when you turn the lamp on, magically, the image of flowers radiates through the light of the lamp shade.  I was dying to use these lamps for staging, and had the chance the other day.  I used black and white … (33 comments)

Does Your Home Staging Look Like an Antipasto Platter? - I Hope So!

I belong to a cooking website called Rouxbe.  This site was started up a few years ago here in Vancouver, and now has paid subscribers from all over the world.  The cool thing about this site is that instead of publishing recipes, it has very clear video instructions on how to make each recipe.  What that heck does this have to do with home staging, you ask?
Well, I was creating an antipasto platter the other day for a party I was invited to, and decided to … (26 comments)

Quail's Gate Winery - Cedar, Sunshine and Sensational Wines

On our recent trip to Kelowna and the local wineries of this area, another winery that stood out, besides Mission Hill, was Quail's Gate Winery.  Also located on the Westbend near Kelowna, Quail's Gate boasts a beautiful location, overlooking the Boucherie Mountain Bench and the Okanagan lake.

For you history buffs, a little background on Quail's Gate...  This winery has been in the Stewart family since the turn of the century.  Richard Stewart Senior arrived in the Okanagan in 1908 from County Kildare in Ireland, and started growing fruit.  His … (8 comments)

Exceptional Wine Meets Superb Design at Mission Hill
As a Vancouver Home Stager, I am always on the lookout for great design.  Design is all around us, and all we have to do is open our eyes and be exposed to the beauty that surrounds us.  Whether the design is natural or man made, successful design will always speak to our souls. I was very fortunate to travel recently to British Columbia's wine country, near Kelowna, where I toured numerous wineries.  One winery that really stands out from a design point of view, is Mission Hill.  The proprietor is Anthony von … (29 comments)
