Gargoyles - Faces only a Mother Can Love
On a recent trip to Paris, I was able to take a quick side trip to Bayeux.  Bayeux is a little town located 2 1/2 hours by train from Paris.  I've always wanted to see the Bayeux Tapestry, the famous tapestry created in 1070 to depict the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings. 
 
To my surprise, not only was I able to admire the famous Bayeux tapestry, but also to discover that the Notre Dame Cathedral in Bayeux has an amazing collection of gargoyles peering down from the buttresses.  I … (22 comments)

In Search of that Illusive Photo - My Adventures With Gargoyles I recently entered the Active Rain Photobloggers contest, and submitted a photo of a gargoyle I took on a visit to Paris several years ago.  I really hadn't looked at these photos, taken while visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, for quite some time.  They were filed away in my "Trip to Paris" file and were collecting cyberspace dust.

ActiveRain PhotoBlogger Contest - Gargoyle! Gargoyles are incredibly eerie, mischievous, wonderful creatures.  What makes them so fascinating?  Is it their cheeky faces, their menacing looks, their tongue in cheek attempts at scaring us away?  I don't know what it is about these adorable pieces of building ornamentation, but I've always had an affinity for gargoyles.
