My Home Is Still Standing - The Aftermath of the Joplin Tornado 2011 Sunday seemed like any other day, except for the weather.  All day the humidity was high, it was a little windy, but we didn't think about tornadoes.  Working real estate all day, we came home about an hour before realizing that Joplin Missouri was about to get hit with a deadly tornado.

Receiving a call this week, a friend let me know her real estate property assessment increased over $40,000, while the market has actually decreased in the past 4 years.  She has until the end of May to contest the increase that will affect the amount of taxes she will pay in the future.
 
Needless to say, it's a little shocking for so many residents to find themselves facing higher taxes.
