google: Forced to use to use Google+. Here we go again. - 07/21/13 01:46 AM
Did your page one rank on Google drop a little bit over the past few days?
If your site dropped down one position or five slots or more this week... my bet is you're like a boatload of other brokers and agents simply ignoring Google+ -- Googke's answer to awhat they think a social media platform should be.
On July 18th, Google tweaked the PANDA bear and sent it out crawling the Internet with an improved algorithm and with this update, came more bad news we need to be prepared for.
Matt Cutts at Google said that rolling PANDA updates … (37 comments)

google: Google's New Pay to Play. WARNING: This will shock you. - 07/12/12 12:33 AM
If you've been in real estate for a while, you might remember when Google first appeared on the Internet landscape more than 11 years ago.
Google fought the PAY to Play game by publicly telling people that Yahoo's Paid Inclusion program was evil. My, oh my, what a difference a decade makes. Because Google seems to have forgotten about their original promise.
If you're a newbie REALTOR, let me bring you up to speed here:
1.) Yahoo's Paid Inclusion was $299 a year and was often thought of as a way to land a page one ranking for your Dallas Website for … (4 comments)

google: Google Gets Sued for Bad Map Directions. Only in America. - 06/06/10 06:36 AM

Just when you thought you've heard of everything and seen everything -- you realize that something new will come along that you haven't seen or heard of.

Lauren Rosenberg is suing Google for "bad directions" on a Google map. If you think that's a bit funny or just plain stupid -- don't laugh or sneer. Because she's probably going to win.

Just like the idiot woman who placed the hot coffee from McDonalds on her car's dashboard and hits the accelerator.

Sploosh.   The coffee spills and she gets a few burns. So she sues McDonalds for her … (5 comments)

google: Yay! Google promises to fix Crappy Map Errors - 05/15/10 07:53 AM

Has This Ever Happened to You?: You tell your prospect to go to Google Maps and get the driving directions.
She turns up at a house that's 3 blocks away.  Whoops!
From spam to bugs... if you've been a bit annoyed at Google maps for a while... trust me: you're not alone.
Carol Phenicie is a Keller Williams agent and she uses Google maps in her real estate services work she provides to other agents. She shoots virtual tours of luxury homes in and around the northern Virginia market and pockets $150 - $200 or more per home she shoots … (2 comments)

google: Google Phone Leads. 104 Octane Boost - 05/05/10 05:03 AM

Three days ago, a fifty-something REALTOR in Omaha shut down her website. Why? Because she had a hard time learning how to modify her business online for getting leads from the Internet.  She scoffed at blogging. She didn't want to do very much online.
The website was semi-custom and was rich in key word content. It had a great IDX and the blog was just started. With no PR effort, no Blogging or link building (from her side) the site was a slow rising start in Google's organic, natural search results page for; omaha real estate
On Monday (before she … (8 comments)

google: Google Adds Competitors To Organic Search. Ouch! - 04/27/10 11:46 AM

If you've been enjoying a nice LEFT side, Google Natural Search Results page for a while now... then I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted. Because nothing last forever. Except styrofoam. The cup you throw away today will still be here 50,000 years from now. Your natural page one presence on Google -- won't.

Just yesterday, Google started adding some changes that a lot of REALTORS aren't going to like.

Google is now adding up to 8 links for other related sited. So as you can see below, one of our clients Jamie Mades is currently … (7 comments)

google: Need some more cash flow? Google AdSense. - 04/24/10 01:11 PM
Do you have a website with a lot of traffic?
I mean a LOT of traffic. Getting a few hundred people per month is not what I mean. If you get 50,000 or more uniques per month, you could be getting monthly checks from Google for selling the spare "real estate" on your website.
Not all websites qualify, but if yours does, you can sprinkle some "Google AdSense" javascripts into your right margins, and the tops and bottoms of your website.
If you don't want to advertise the local broker-agent competitors on your website, it's easy to filter them out. Simply … (5 comments)

google: Oh Crap! Paid Links are SPAM. The Death of Link Farms. - 04/10/10 03:17 PM
Yes, really.
Lt. Warf of Star Trek might say "Today is a good day to die."  Klingon's like to battle and they often speak of being victorious and an honorable death.
I hardly doubt this is what a few thousand link farms are going to be saying when they have their weekly staff meetings next Monday. Because with just one algorithm change, Google has made Link Farms as extinct as the dinosaurs that once roamed the earth millions of years ago.
March might have showed that the market grew with 162,000 new jobs.  But I can pretty much guarantee you … (10 comments)

google: Getting to the Top of Google. Successful Link Building. - 02/12/10 02:20 AM
The Internet is growing so big, so fast... it's getting harder and harder to measure it's true dimensions. It's also getting harder to be found when next time homebuyers come looking for your website.
2010 is the year a lot of REALTORS are going to be shutting down and tossing in the towel largely due to one reason.
Broker Bob at Amazing Realty across town has a page one #3 presence on Google and you don't.
Wouldn't you like to change that and put your website on page one of Google so people will find your site above Broker Bob's?
You … (10 comments)

google: Instant Social Media. New from Google. Oh Jeez. - 02/09/10 01:34 PM
I think someone at Google needs to have their heads examined. This one is really stupid.
Me too Social Media. Me too cell phone. When does it stop? Does anyone bother to think (other than me) that some me-too follow on products are just going to be a complete waste of time and might piss off your current customers so much --- that they might STOP using your products?
Google is making a big mistake with this one.
Starting tomorrow, your Google Control Panel will soon sport a new word; Google BUZZ on your left side control panel with your Google … (6 comments)

google: Google Goggles. Has "SmartPhone" Technology Gone Too Far? - 01/03/10 10:37 AM

Just when you thought you'd seen everything, you begin to realize that you haven't seen everything yet.
A former employee of Voyager is a full time employee at Google. They have all kinds of fun and interesting things coming out. Some things I cannot talk about yet as they might take my Google stock certificates and burn them.
An interesting new product I wanted to share with you is the new Google G-Phone. A product that's sure to piss off their partner Verizon with the DROID phone sooner or later.
Apparently, Google's CEO Schmidt has visions dancing in his head … (10 comments)

google: See Google's Social Media Update. Right Here. Right Now. - 01/03/10 04:30 AM

Google's New Real Time Search Results is no longer in BETA. They're rolling it out now across the nation right now.
When it gets to the letter "R" for Real Estate Real Time SERP Results... you'd better cross your fingers you've done enough blogging. Google is now indexing the Tweets from Twitter and it's not something the Bartman is playing with the BETA version anymore.
You might have panned the Twitter fad, but Google poured millions of dollars into licensing Twitter content in December 2009. And they wrote a big fat check to Facebook, too.

google: Google to Improve Featured Ads for REALTORS - 11/25/09 12:34 AM
Google is always tinkering with new ways to make search more relevant -- and charge you MORE MONEY for making your real estate website stand out.
They won't do anything to make your me-too McWebsite template look more attractive. But at least Google will let your Google Ad stand out more with a GOLD STAR if you are the most relevant search for the next time home buyer looking to buy a new home in Cincinnati. Or San Francisco. Or anywhere else.
Google is experimenting with a RELEVANT search and a GOLD STAR now. See below for two searches for an … (21 comments)

google: Google Voice. Voice Mail was Never this Much Fun. - 10/27/09 01:21 PM
Google Wave. Google Search. Google Docs. Google Apps. Let's face it. Lots of us are Goo-goo over Google.
And for good reason. Simplicity is what we all crave.
Aren't you just a little tired of dealing with five, seven or even ten different companies out there who mange your website, Top Producer, Settlement Room, Point2Agent, Reply! for leads.... aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh it makes you want to scream.
There'a a lot to like about Google when it comes to anyone streamlining their real estate business. They innovate constantly, which is something a lot of us should be doing, too. And best of all, Google is … (46 comments)

google: ArGh! Now I Have to Sort Through Twitter Tweets. - 10/22/09 11:18 AM
I've been micro-interrupted so many times with my iPhone with people Tweeting on Twitter I've just turned the damned service off so I can get some work done.
I could care less that Arnold was pissed off that a photographer caught his wife red handed driving with a phone stuck to her ear. I'm thankful that the California fires were put out, but Arnold like to Tweet a lot. He Tweets seven... sometimes fifteen times a day.

He should change his name to the Tweet-a-nator instead of Gov-a-nator.

President Obama only Tweets three or so times a day … (53 comments)

google: Google Opens OnLine Bookstore. Good for SEO, too. - 10/15/09 10:54 AM
Competition for Amazon Bookstore? Maybe. It depends on how you look at it.
Amazon has gone Star Trek. Sort of.
Did you ever watch the TV show or any of the movies? All of them have these five inch by seven inch pads or electronic PADS. They seem to download stuff to, read them. Stacks of them in different colors were on Captain Picard's desk sometimes.

Google's plans for many books in fact will be complimentary or if you look at it this way -- ALTERNATIVES. Amazon offers the Kibble.
It's a box that sort of looks … (4 comments)

google: Need Leads? GoodBye HomeGain... Hello Google. - 10/08/09 07:46 AM
Could there actually be an AGENT or BROKER without a Website somewhere in San Francisco or San Diego...?
According to Google, there has to be more than a few businesses out there without a website presumed hiding in San Diego or San Francisco.
Google is testing a new advertising program with a FLAT fee per lead. They are letting businesses in San Diego and San Francisco test drive a new Google Pay Per Lead advertising model that connects you to a potential customer right over the phone. Way cool. Of course, the program will work if you have a … (13 comments)

google: How many websites can I point (safely) for Google to rank me higher? - 10/06/09 10:56 AM
A friend of mine asked me how many websites could he safely direct to his one main website's landing page.
Directing too many websites to another using specific, relevant rich keyword text links can be viewed by Google as a gray hat SEO technique and will do more harm than good if the broker or agent (doing their own SEO) doesn't fully realize what they're doing. Because LESS is more. Google removed the relevance once created by the Inktomi popularity links.
Google changed quite a few rules this year when the released the first part of CAFFEINE. Also, putting in too … (28 comments)

google: Google Wave. A cool, new idea for Open Houses or Hot Sheets? - 09/30/09 07:37 AM
I should feel like a movie star because Google today rolled out the red carpet treatment to me and invited me to be a part of Google Wave.
Google only invited 100,000 people to test it. Apparently I was important enough. An honor to be sure -- but I'm already on information overload already. I've barely mastered how to Chirp on Twitter, how to get fans coming to my FaceBook page and while I'm good at this... I by no means consider myself a Social Media Jedi Master yet.
I will play with Google Wave later in the week, and just … (62 comments)

google: Coming Soon: Paid Search for Home inventory. Google Crossbow. - 09/15/09 01:43 PM
A few SEO gurus are starting to paint a new suite of Paid Search services that might soon be coming to Google. If they prove successful, you can bet your next commission advance that Microsoft will once again try to copy cat it for Bing.  Have you seen Windows 7?
I have. It's the closest operating system I've seen that looks a lot like a Macintosh. So why not go and buy a Macintosh? Why the cheap carbon-copy knock off?
Anyway, that's another story for another time.
In my last post, I showed everybody a cool, new SEO research tool.
