walterhayes: A Letter to the Residents of Ward 2 in Carl Junction - 01/20/11 08:09 AM
January 20th, 2011

Dear Ward 2 Resident:
The people of Ward 2 have allowed me to serve as an Alderman in Carl Junction since 2003 and for that I thank you. This year is the first time someone has put their name forward in addition to my own so you will have a choice in whom you select for Alderman in the election on April 5th.
Since taking office in 2003 we have accomplished many things in Carl Junction.  We have been very proud, as a council and your city staff, of the fact that while constantly seeking to improve … (0 comments)

walterhayes: Giving Thanks - 11/19/10 05:01 AM
As Thanksgiving approaches next week it is the normal time to stop, reflect and give thanks. I try to do this throughout the year but this time of year is an especially good time to reflect on the past and then look forward and plan for the future.
I am blessed in many ways as I have a great wife and family. My wife has been at my side for the better part of 31 years now. And I still remember kissing her in front of her parents and grandparents for the first time then she couldn't remember my name when … (2 comments)

walterhayes: Smoking Bans - 11/09/10 04:57 AM
The Carl Junction has had a presentaion made on banning smoking in certain places where the public may encounter second hand smoke and for that matter workers in those establishments as well. I know Joplin has struggled with this and I believe intends to put something on the April ballot concerning this. Unfortunately, putting something like this on a ballot doesn't ensure that the rights of all are protected.
I could not personally, vote for a ban on smoking even though I certainly prefer being in places that have no smoking. The argument when it comes to smoking bans is directed … (0 comments)

walterhayes: Introducing the KW Stimulus Program - 09/23/10 08:28 AM
Missed your chance to take advantage of the government’s last real estate stimulus package? Want to learn how to optimize your buying power? Introducing the KW Stimulus.  Sellers working with the HayesTeam are making their homes more attractive to buyers by offering to help buyers buy down the interest rate on their new home loan.  It can make a big difference in the monthly payment, save  tens of thousands of dollars in interest over the life of the loan and help you qualify for a higher priced home than you might have otherwise.
How does this work you ask? Here’s an … (0 comments)

walterhayes: Market Numbers for the Joplin Area and Their Impact on Positioning Your Home - 09/19/10 03:52 PM

These graphs plot the new listings on an annual basis vs the sold listings on an annual basis for different market areas in and around Joplin MO.  As you can see from 2002 to 2005 the new listings and the solds were pretty even but from 2006 forward the gap got considerably wider. The other thing of note here is that the total number of sold properties was very steady through 2007 then drops off in 2008 and 2009. Since there are less buyers out there currently than there were prior to 2008 and a ton more inventory … (0 comments)

walterhayes: A Comprehensive Plan for Carl Junction - 07/24/10 02:56 AM
I've been chairing the Long Range Planning Committee that has been working on a new Comprehensive Plan for about a year now. At a joint meeting with Planning and Zoning a little over a week ago I talked some about what I hoped the plan would look like when we're done. Well I can give you more insight into what I hope we have when we're done now. Not because I have more specific to Carl Junction yet but because I made a trip back to my child hood home town of Gonzales LA. Ascension Parish has been working on a … (0 comments)

walterhayes: Another Succesful Week, I Guess - 07/18/10 09:08 AM
Sometimes when I'm in a Board of Alderman meeting here in Carl Junction it seems that we've likely done the best we could when all sides of an issue leave mad because we didn't do things the way they wanted. This whole week has been kind of that way.
I posted what I thought was an interesting cartoon from 1948 a couple of days or so back that got me called basically stupid because my grammar and spelling wasn't correct and I showed my belief in God. I was attacked vehemently by one person in particular for being as conservative as … (10 comments)

walterhayes: Make Mine Freedom - 07/16/10 12:44 AM
Saw this on Facebook this morning. The video is part of series apparently put out by Harding University at the start of the Cold War warning about the dangers of "isms". Too bad we've swung so far the other way. Way too many have drunk from the bottle and seem to like the taste. See for yourself. … (24 comments)

walterhayes: A Favorite Quote for the Day - 07/14/10 03:15 PM
"Remember you are not a tree, that can stand alone, you are only a branch, and it is only while you abide in Him, as a branch, that you will fourish." - Robert M. McCheyne 1813 - 1843
Too often we forget that we as Christians were merely grafted in and not a replacement for Israel, God's chosen people. Anyone that thinks otherwise is badly mistaken and in for a hughe disappointment on the day of judgement.

walterhayes: Climategate gets Burned by Reality - 07/09/10 08:01 AM
Alright Joplin Globe, I've had about enough of the kool-aide drinking Gene Lyons and his supposed educated insights into what's right with the Democrats and what's wrong with everyone else. His latest tyrade is about how the peers of Michael Mann concluded that he hadn't manufactured global warming. i don't care anymore about whether he manufactured the global warming evidence than the Democrats care that Bill Clinton lied under oath. The guy is still wrong. There is nothing scientific about man made global warming (or climate change as they now like to call it since people were apparently catching on to … (8 comments)

walterhayes: My America Why I Love Her - 07/02/10 11:30 AM
I needed to find something patriotic to do in concerts for the Southern Gospel Group I'm with. I got to hunting around and found something that John Wayne recorded back in the seventies. It does a pretty good job of summing it up.  I don't know who the actual author as I don't think it was Wayne. I use America the Beautiful as the backdrop to this. Its a good message for the Independence celebration this July 4th weekend.

You ask me Why I Love Her? Well, give me time and I'll explain.
Have you seen a Kansas sunset … (6 comments)

walterhayes: General Stanley McChrystal - 06/23/10 04:07 AM
I respect the general for speaking out but did he really think it was going to lead to anything other than his early retirement? He'd have had a lot more impact if he'd had retired first and retired because of his complaints. He could have then gone to Congress to try to get a hearing. Now he's just another loud mouth that direspected his Commander in Chief. He wouldn't have put up with that sort of insubordination from those under him. Is there really any reason to think he has anything more in his future than retirement?
Its unfortunate too as … (19 comments)
