activerain: Thanksgiving Blessings To My Entire ActiveRain Family - 11/25/13 01:27 PM
Thanksgiving Blessings To My Entire ActiveRain Family

We set aside this holiday as a celebration of the first Thanksgivings of the Pilgrims at the Plymouth Colony to a decade earlier when ships laden with food came from across the waters to Virginia at a time of great famine.
There are many stories of the first Thanksgivings but the real point was the gratefulness and it became expressed as a feast of food for all in attendance.
Before the feast, a prayer was said expressing the gratefulness of the blessings and while it might not have actually been said this way, it was implied that … (24 comments)

activerain: A Thought For Today - 10/29/13 05:20 AM

In a recent comment to a member here in ActiveRain, I shared something that my Dad shared with me as I was growing up. It become the core of who I am today. After sharing this I thought it might be good if I shared with everyone . If you will take this Thought for Today and allow it to be a core of who you are, and each of us share it with others that will also adopt it, I promise you the world will be a better place. And isn't that what we are all about here in … (39 comments)

activerain: What Type of Blogger are You? - 08/08/13 04:44 PM
I thought it would be interesting to assign various content type of writers specific type titles and ask you how you see yourself.
The first predominant blogger type is the Teacher/Mentor. This type of writer often writes posts that support opinion with fact and use their posts to teach relevant content often with the results of doing something one way or the other. Most often clearly associating industry experience with enhanced professional performance. I usually associate this type with highly experienced real estate professionals, home inspectors and home stagers that teach us how they do what they do.
Another type is the … (51 comments)

activerain: Love Sweet Love And Valentines Day Trivia - 02/14/13 06:14 AM
What the world needs now, Is Love Sweet Love but I would settle for people just respecting each other a little bit more. The vitriol of our country's leaders the last number of years is one of the saddest statements describing our great nation. On a personal level, we all see how our people reach out to one another in times of need. Yet, the story told in our press is so much less kind. OK, we know that bad news sells in the press, but I think we need to reject a lot of the senseless negative stuff the press … (24 comments)

activerain: Three Things I Would Like My Website To Do - 02/08/13 08:44 AM
Three Things I Would Like My Website To Do
1. I would love to have a live chat available on the website homepage that when a person wants to chat, if we are not available , there comment or question is text messaged to us allowing us to reach and respond back to them.
2. When we write a blog post on ActiveRain, the site picks up a link and posts it on the website. It could be titled "Today's Blog Post" with a brief section of the post. If a person clicks on it, it takes them to our ActiveRain … (4 comments)

activerain: The Real Estate Market Recovery of 2013 - 02/01/13 10:19 AM
The Real Estate Market Recovery of 2013
The empirical evidence we have seen here on ActiveRain in our respective markets indicates that sales are increasing irrespective of the lower inventory and that many listings are enjoying multiple counter offers not unlike the frenetic activity we observed a good six or seven years ago.
I think most would agree that at least these are the reports that we are getting from markets around the country. Heck, we can even read it in the local newspapers and that alone must make it true. ☺
So, if this true, why are we hearing from economists … (44 comments)

activerain: 2008 ActiveRain Featured Blog Post Still Timely Today - 01/24/13 09:41 AM
I wrote a post in 2008 that was featured and I re-read that post today and it gave me a sense of pride about its content. The post, as mentioned then, was inspired by a comment made by Jeff Dowler, a friend and real estate colleague here in San Diego.
The post was a question about what motivates us as a REALTOR to blog. I was impressed that I had such good insight actually being relatively new to the blogging world back then.
Here is the link, if you would like to read it. It isn't bad, really! In fact as … (5 comments)

activerain: How to Add a Photo When Using the iPad for Writing a Blog Post on ActiveRain - 01/05/13 12:31 AM

How to Add a Photo When Using the iPad for Writing a Blog Post

Cheryl Richie from Maryland and I some time ago figured out how to add the photo using our Flickr account. It was as simple as sending the photos to Flickr and using the web address for the photo. My problem with this is I don't want to send all my edited photos on Flickr for reasons that have nothing to do with this post.
When I edit or resize a photo and add a © and name, I save that photo in DropBox. Unable to … (50 comments)

activerain: 290 Points to the One Million Points Status - 12/26/12 01:23 PM
This post will bring that total down to about 65 points needed  but I will achieve the milestone number  after midnight tonight when I make several more of my comments for tomorrow, I will join the Millionaire group and be in the first 50 members of ActiveRain nationwide to achieve that status. So first I want to thank everyone that encouraged me to stay with blogging when I didn't really feel like it a couple years back.
The truth is, I was uninspired at times to write about what I know best. Real Estate. I have spared you most of my … (55 comments)

Mother Natures Amazing Dreamcoat of Many Colors

We are near Fall's last days and about to welcome a very cold and wet Winter. This photo was taken at Harvey's Lake in Eastern PA a couple years ago. I am told the colors were much less vibrant this year and I was glad I had taken this at colors peak that October.
The years and the seasons are passing quickly and the only way to slow them down at least a little  is take in every possible scene and record as many as you can with your camera.

activerain: WordPress for Beginners - 08/27/12 04:17 PM
I have had my own business blog site for the better part of five years. When I first signed up to have my own custom blogsite built, I was still pretty new to ActiveRain but knew I would want to continue with the experience of blogging about real estate, my community and provide regular local real estate market reports.
Being a neophyte to blogging, I was never really sure that I would make a difference in my business but others assured me I would never regret the time or the resources to build the site out and advantage myself as a … (52 comments)

activerain: Do You Have a Facination with Pirates? Myrl Jeffcoat, ActiveRainmaker from Sacramento Does ! - 06/24/12 12:05 PM
One of our ActiveRainmakers and the owner of San Diego Pirate Ship Adventures has something in common. Myrl Jeffcoat and Arrit McPhearson owner of Pirate Adventure Tours have a facination with Pirates. In Sept each year, Myrl and her family celebrate " Talk like a Pirate Day" replete with Myrl going the distance and dressing up like a pirate for the family celebration.

When I saw the pirate ship out in the Bay, the first thing I thought of was Myrl and how much she and her family would enjoy this adventure.

The Story Behind the haunting melody " Taps"

Most Americans don't know the story about how "Taps" became the solemn tribute to our war dead but I wanted to bring forward something special this Memorial Day to our ActiveRain members.
Many didn't realize that Taps actually has words and I will also share those words here with you, because here in the Rain, we teach and share with each other things that we have learned through our lives.
Back during the Civil War a Union Army Captain by the name of Robert Ellicombe was with his men at Harrison's Landing … (38 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Spotlighted in California Association of REALTORS® Magazine - 05/11/12 11:30 AM
One of the wonderful pleasures of ActiveRain is that one never knows when we might be called upon to share our enthusiasm for this amazing network of outstanding professionals that I feel so personally privaledged to be a part of.
I had the good fortune of being called by a writer for the California Real Estate Magazine for an interview about ActiveRain. The writer mentioned that she was writing an article about the specific sites that REALTORS® use for tools to build their on-line business. When I received my magazine yesterday, I was delighted to see the article below about … (60 comments)

I Have a Different Viewpoint About ActiveRain Points and I am Proud of It !
I see many members rushing to accumulate points with post after post of not much interest and not many or in some case any comments. My personal opinion about ActiveRain is that I love the experience. I like it that many people comment on my posts and we can learn from each other. I like it that I am building a quality readership of interested  members but also building long term friendships. I feel rich with friendships here in the Rain, people I can count on … (89 comments)
