I am Thankful for...my children, Daquan, Jasmine, and William James, Jr. Each one of them has a special place in my heart, and in their own unique way, make my life richer as a result of their presence, and for that I am truly grateful. I couldn't imagine my life without them.

I am Thankful for...All of my friends. I may not talk on the phone or chat on-line with them everyday, but when it counts, we are always there for each other, and having real friends, both in the virtual world and in the real world, is a treasure indeed.

I am Thankful for...Another year of life. So many have come and have been cut short. I could have been one of them, but God knew the plans He had for me and said otherwise...after so many accidents, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and only God knows what else, I am still here. Thank you, Lord, for another year of life.

I am Thankful for...Having car insurance. We take some things for granted, but we really shouldn't. Someone rear-ended me today, and thank God that I wasn't hurt (not to my knowledge, anyway). But the other driver - had no insurance. That could have been me, or anyone, and that's not a good place to be in for anyone. So I am not only grateful for being able to drive away from it relatively unharmed, but also for the fact that if I should ever have an accident, whether it is no fault, my fault, or someone else's fault, I'm covered.

I am Thankful for...My family. I have a wife, children, a mother, sisters, an aunt and uncles, grandparents, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom I love, and who love me. We laugh, we cry, we share, we fight, but when it really counts, we are all there for each other, in ways that truly matter. I am glad for the times that I get to spend with my family, for those are the times that create the memories that are truly worthwhile.

I am Thankful for...God's grace and mercy in sparing my son's life. He decided to put a scarf in the oven as his mother was preparing to cook something. One of those flammable material scarves...the oven was in flames for a minute. His mother called me in a panic while I was out, but quickly gathered her wits about her and put it out. Thank God, it could have been much worse.

I am Thankful for...All the soldiers that have ever fought in every war to make sure that we could enjoy and keep the freedoms we have. For my grandfather, for my deceased uncle, and for any other relatives who have served in the Armed Forces, and to all those who I have never, and may never get the pleasure of meeting, I say thank you. I am Thankful for...My mother. I never cease to be amazed by the simple words of wisdom that she shares with me, that she's been sharing with me all my life. When I was young, I did not always see what she was talking about, but I began to appreciate them shortly after college, and she's given me insights into different facets of my life even now. Just today, she reminded me of the need for me to take care of myself - to take a vacation, take time for myself, because I have been constantly taking care of everyone else. … (8 comments)

I am Thankful for...Teaching. Having been taught has opened up my eyes to so many different things and enables me to assess and evaluate situations and respond to them appropriately. I would not be able to pray effectively, or be a blessing to anyone, if I had not been in a place to receive instruction, even when that instruction seemed hard to bear. I am so grateful for that, and for the instruments that God used to teach me those valuable lessons.

I am Thankful for...Challenges. They keep me on my knees before God, teach me patience, humility, and perseverance. No matter where those challenges arise, or who brings them, I am grateful for the lessons that they are teaching me, grateful for how they remind me of God's grace towards me and how I am to show His grace to others.

I am Thankful for...Aches and pains. Huh? Yes, for being able to feel when my body isn't right, because the alternatives are much worse. And having a small measure of physical discomfort helps me keep things in perspective, for there are people who are worse off than me. It teaches me not to complain, and to be content in whatever state I find myself in.

I had the experience today of discovering that all was not as it seemed, and that revelation allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.
