san antonio: Don'ts of Visiting San Antonio - 12/21/22 11:18 AM
Although the video is titled "San Antonio: The Don'ts of Visiting San Antonio", there are lots of things to do.
Guess I'm feeling nostalgic as we moved to San Antonio twenty-five years ago. I've lived here longer than any other city and it's still my favorite place to live. It would be nice to have professional football here considering the size of population here but it's still a great place to me.
So if you would like information about San Antonio or the nearby area, call me. If I don't know the answer, I can probably help you find an answer.

san antonio: San Antonio Property Taxes Going Up in 2016 - 05/08/16 03:48 AM
San Antonio Property Taxes Going Up in 2016
San Antonio property taxes going up in 2016 for most residential property owners. Bexar County Appraisal District released the estimated tax bill information to property owners over the past few days. Lots of negative reaction in news reports about how citizens are feeling about the additional money that will need be paid for the tax increase. See "Are San Antonio Property Taxes Outrageous?"

I think some of the terminology used by the Appraisal District contributes to citizen's negative reactions. For a residential property, the building or home is listed as an "improvement". Land without a structure is … (8 comments)

san antonio: West of San Antonio Still Have Cotton Farms - 09/28/14 01:36 AM

West of San Antonio there are still cotton farms. This farm is about thirty miles from downtown San Antonio. It is in Medina County Texas. In the not too distant past, cotton was known as King Cotton. So much of the economy of southern states was dependent on the growing and sale of cotton.
Before the machine age, it took thousands of workers to handle the planting and harvesting of the crops. The development of machines to handle much of the manual labor reduced the need some of back breaking work on cotton farms. Additionally the creation of sythetic materials … (14 comments)

san antonio: An Interesting Rest Stop on Texas IH-35 - 04/16/14 01:30 PM
An Interesting  Rest Stop on Texas  IH-35
Two interesting rest stops are  located on Texas IH-35 between Dallas/Fort Worth and Waco. They are  around mile marker 281/282, depending if you're going north or south. Yolanda Gilbert created a post earlier this week highlighting some European windmills.
The windmill concept and other farm implements are used in the design of these rest stops. These rest stops opened late last year are are a big improvement of what used to pass for rest stops. These stops are well lit, clean, and monitored by on staff attendants and video feeds provide additional sets of eyes.

san antonio: First-Time Home Buyers In San Antonio - 12/29/13 07:09 AM
First-Time Home Buyers In San Antonio
Lots of decisions involved in deciding where to live. How much we are willing to spend, how much we are willing to borrow, and commute times to work are usual factors that affect the where to buy decision.
Based on my experience, first-time home buyers in San Antonio the budget is the largest single factor involved in what they buy. Commute time to work and quality of schools are the next in ranking of important factors.
First time buyers have lots of decisions to make. Understanding their financial limitations, and appreciating the obligations of home … (9 comments)

san antonio: How Will You Get Out of Your San Antonio Home If It's On Fire? - 11/20/13 12:29 PM
How Will You Get Out of Your San Antonio Home If It's On Fire?
Hopefully your home will never have a fire that requires you to escape. But things happen-accidents, domestic difficulties, or acts of God-and can lead to fires at your home.

Think about what are the escape routes from each room in the home.
If you have children in the home, teach and practice with them their escape routes The size of your home, the ages of people in the home will dictate how your plan can best be implemented. Your local fire department is a … (4 comments)

san antonio: San Antonio Fountains at Tower of the Americas - 08/13/13 02:56 PM
San Antonio Fountains at Tower of the AmericasSan Antonio's Tower of Americas is a pretty prominent landmark that can be seen from  afar. If you ever get to downtown San Antonio you may be surprised to see the water features in the area near the base of the tower. Here's a short video of the area. The tower has an observation deck, they say it's 750 feet above street level, and from what I hear, a nice rotating restaurant, Chart House. The tower is pretty easy to find, so check it out if you are in the area.

san antonio: Most Important Step in Planning Your San Antonio Home Purchase - 06/27/13 01:53 PM
Most Important Step in Planning Your San Antonio Home PurchaseExperts may differ on what's the most important step in planning your home purchase. Some may say locations. Others may suggest a good REALTOR® or Loan Officer. All of those are important, but before any of those you should figure out if home ownership is something your want to do. Are you up to the task?Home ownership is a financial responsibility and physical work is required. You may be in a position to have the physical work done by handymen, or women, maids or butlers (do butlers still exist), or tradesmen. But … (10 comments)

san antonio: Are Homes in San Antonio Selling Over Asking Price? - 06/24/13 04:19 AM
Are Homes in San Antonio Selling Over Asking Price?
The short answer is  some, but not many are selling over asking price in San Antonio. Now my sample size is not statistically valid for research purposes. But I think it's a good indicator of the relationship between asking price and sales price over a pretty wide range of  homes in the San Antonio area of the past thirty-days (30).
Here is how I obtained the sample-
Selected homes whose sales price were exactly $50,000, and $100,000 and increasing increments of  $100,000 up to $800,000.  Observered original sales price, sales price at time … (12 comments)

Napa Forest in San Antonio  (The Vineyard) The largest of The Vineyard communities is Napa Forest and Sienna Woods. Located about a half mile north of Loop 1604, this section of The Vineyard can be entered from either Huebner or Blanco Roads. This gated section has around six hundred homes. These communities started in the late 1997 and the build out was completed around 2003. There were four builders in the area: Prestige Homes, Japhet Homes, Connell-Barron, and Perry Homes. Here's a quick look at some of the great lights displayed in 2012.

san antonio: Recent Photos - 04/03/09 04:01 PM

The tower reminds me of a "B" movie UFO from the '50's. "Take me to your leader."

Had a five-minute hail storm, March 31, I found that my gutters need to be cleaned too.

san antonio: Market Activity Report (Timberwood Park) - 04/03/09 03:05 PM
Maybe the combination of lower of gas prices, from the historic highs of last year, and the hope that the stimulus packages, and bailouts will make things better are helping us see a boost in real estate activity in the Timberwood Park area. I know many of the people I worked with last year wanted to find homes inside Loop 1604 becasue of fuel prices and commuting time. That really slowed activity for me in Stone Oak, Bulverde Road corridor, and Timberwood Park. Things are looking better in 2009.
Of course, many are concerned about employment, and if the economic recovery is going to … (0 comments)
