TAX Rebates - Will Someone Tell Me How They are Going to Stimulate the Economy? I know this is election year, so my expectations for true innovation, hope and trust in the government have been turned off by my previous dissappointments. We have been all told the checks are in the mail, and not to worry! For those of us in real estate initially we thought it would boost our sales a little, but I don't think it will. I noticed recently that spring homebuyers have all but disappeared off the radar. I do not think the reason for their disappearance is from the evening news on real estate, but rather that the price of gasoline is now so painful to most Americans, that they are just not going out. It is a reluctance to take on more pain! I've noticed if I go out to eat, I am not waiting to be seated, and the restaurants are not overly crowded. I went shopping at the Wal-Mart last night in Alpharetta to get a few things and I was surprised to see how empty the store was. There were no crowds on every aisle as usual. In fact I thought it was Cinco de Mayo, but even the restaurants around the store were not packed. When we went to check out another unusual thing happened, I noticed was that no one was at any of the check outs. April Consumer Confidence Falls is todays's headlines. Are you surprised? I'm not! The price of a gallon of gas is about $2 a gallon more than I would like to pay for it. Every time I go to a restaurant I cannot help but notice that the prices have gone up. The result, I eat out less! In the supermarket I can spend $65 and ask myself "Did I buy caviar?" My next trip to the store, I will stick to my list, and forgo some comfort foods. If home prices are declining, and airfares are going up why would I not notice it? … (17 comments)

I sometimes wonder where the spirit of America has gone? Has accountability given way to apathy? Have Americans decided to go softly without a whimper? Have we lost the message of our patriotic past and heritage? It seems that way!
