There is an old accountant joke that goes like this..."How much is 2+2=?" The accountant answers, "How much do you want it to be?" I read a lot of real estate statistics that seem like they were prepared by that same accountant in the joke. The statistics we provide in our industry are a joke most of the time, and very self serving. They make a statement, but avoid the truth. Partial numbers only give us a half the truth. With listing inventories up in most real estate market, it is strange to many sellers and agents alike that they don't want to pay attention to the numbers. Numbers, and statistics allow us to make a demostration that can explain our current market, and possibly future trends. It is easier to put one's head in the sand, and pretend it is still 2005. Statistics and numbers may be boring but they paint a picture of the current real estate market and times ahead. They are not threatening. I think the reason that many persons dislike statistics is like the two jokes. … (4 comments)
