lancaster: Why I Chose Real Estate...A Trusted Confidant
- 08/06/11 08:06 AM
I was born in Iowa. There I learned to value of hard work, living and working on the family farm. I harbor many fond memories...harvesting corn and beans, tending to chores (though I did not like these when I actually did them), mowing lawn, butchering chickens, along with dozens of other farm related activities. Family and church relationships were central to all I did while growing up. I value these relationships. Who I am today is greatly informed by these early experiences in my life. People tell me I am very friendly. I believe people tend to treat you the way (11 comments)
Inspired by Tammy Lankford's comment on another blog, here is a bit of Lancaster local food culture. She wanted to know what in the world is shoo fly pie. Shoo fly pie has been experienced by most, if not all who live in Lancaster, PA. You see two recipes that are printed in the Franconia Culinary, a local cookbook. The names of those who submitted the recipe is written at the bottom of each recipe. The top one is the recipe my wife's family favored. In Lancaster, PA, shoo fly pie is eaten at all hours and is in vogue (19 comments)

lancaster: A Staged Stooge
- 05/02/11 03:59 PM
Can any stooge stage a home or does it take more than a sap? I learned it definitely takes more than a stooge to stage a home. I recently listed 26 Harvard Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603. This cottage style home definitely had vintage written all over it when I went on my first appointment. The large living room had red wool carpet which the owners believed was over 30 years old. I suggested to the owners that a home stager would be a great idea. I contracted the services of Dawnell and Diane of Shape Up Your Space. They responded in (9 comments)

lancaster: The Making of a Leader - Being a Real Estate Leader
- 08/31/10 03:31 PM
What does it mean to be a leader in the real estate field? Is it being a top producer? Is it being the number one agent in volume, average price per transaction? In Lancaster, PA real estate, I suggest an important leadership trait is setting the tone. This is described by John Maxwell as the Law of Sacrifice. Being a leader in one's office, in a transaction, in working with a client means setting the tone by being willing to sacrifice for the good of another. Selflessness compared to selfishness is readily apparent to others. I believe an effective leader in Lancaster, (18 comments)

The Making of a Good Leader Every person has the opportunity to exhibit good leadership qualities. As a realtor in Lancaster, PA, I understand this better than most. I spent 22 years as a pastor and learned so much about leadership. Helping sellers and buyers in a transaction in the Lancaster, PA real estate business also includes important leadership traits. The first quality of leadership I articulate is, "Positive, Passionate Presence." If you are in the business of leadership in your occupation or family, you must be present. lancaster: The birth of a non-profit housing corporation
- 07/10/10 06:31 AM
The church in Lancaster, PA I attend has recently developed a non-profit housing corporation called Chestnut Housing Corporation. For many months persons have been discussing this idea and with the help of many persons from the church it is a legally recognized non-profit. If that is not exciting enough, we were able to buy our first property at 639 East Chestnut which is pictured below. The Chestnut Housing Corporation is becoming organized and has begun fund-raising. They will partner with Tabor Community Services to provide affordable housing for Lancaster city. The property will need to be renovated and made into a wonderful (4 comments)
lancaster: Friendship Wealth

Friendship Wealth As I reflect on my recent health challenges, I realize how truly wealthy I am. Some say a one's true wealth can be measured by how many friends he/she has. By this measure, I realize I am blessed. I experienced a hospitalization of 5 days about 2 weeks ago. I had been feeling poorly for about a week before I was correctly diagnosed with multiple pulmonary embolli and thus the hospitalization. It was through this experience I realized how vital and important my friends are to me.The day I was hospitalized my office mates rallied around me in worry (15 comments)
