31 days of may challenge: If You're Transferring Your AR Blog to Your WP Blog... - 05/12/11 04:26 PM
If You're Transferring Your AR Blog to Your WP Blog...
I'm not fond of writing. I don't want to start over in case anything untoward happens to our beloved platform, ActiveRain. So last night, I took advantage of the link provided by Jorgen Hahn, the former AR CTO, to transfer my blog over to my new Wordpress blog. (You don't have to do this, but it's always a good idea to have a backup for your blog--Brad Andersohn said so!)
Fine, so after the transfer I scanned through some pages to see if the format changed, and it did, but not too bad. Some of the … (31 comments)

31 days of may challenge: I Love Orchids, but They Don't Love Me! - 05/11/11 01:50 PM
I Love Orchids, But They Don't Love Me!

I love orchids, real or artificial. They are very elegant, beautiful, exotic, but unfortunately, high maintenance. I bought one plant on my second year in real estate in 2006. Just like any orchid plant bought from stores, it starts out with very tall, long stems filled with blooms. After the blooms withered,  I anticipated more blooms the following year... but that didn't happen.
I kept tending it the way I know how, (watering when completely dry, in a bright location) but it lost the second shoot regardless.  It didn't … (17 comments)

31 days of may challenge: It's Hamburger Helper Night, You know - 05/10/11 02:13 PM
It's Hamburger Helper Night, You Know!
So here I am on the 10th of the 31 Days of May Challenge; what to write about I still don't know!
I'm supposed to have some topics in the pipeline, in case the ideas dry up (but there's nothing there now, you know).
I can write about politics (sometimes can be divisive, you know).
Don't want to talk about my clients and my deals, (fiduciary, you know).
Don't want to talk about my family (I'm private, you know).
I can tease my husband, but he's busy in the basement (doing one of the honey … (9 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Gas Prices on Parade - 05/09/11 04:14 PM
Gas Prices on Parade

When the price of oil goes up, consumers immediately feel the pinch at the gas pumps. I have my iPhone with me at the ready, so I took pictures of posted gas prices in my neighborhood.  This is the first one taken on April 23 as it reached $4.00/gallon at our local Sam's Club, just south of O'Fallon, Illinois.

A week later, time to fill up again on May 3 in a local gas station in the business center of O'Fallon Highway 50.

What a difference an evening makes on May 4 on the intersection of US Highway 50 and … (15 comments)

Paulo's at the Mansion - an Elegant Restaurant in O'Fallon, Illinois
One of my favorite restaurants is right here deep in the heart of O'Fallon, Illinois. It's Paulo's at the Mansion, nestled in a park-like setting surrounded by mature trees, looking out over a small lake.
It was built in 1857, a two-story Italianate style brick building with a square cupola on the third floor. In early 2000 it was completely rehabbed to be used as a restaurant called The Mansion at Lakepointe.  Though the fare was great, the former owners had to close down the enterprise.  Enter David Kappert and Paulo Pacheco who brought … (2 comments)

31 days of may challenge: The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows - Springtime Senior Celebration - 05/08/11 04:32 AM
The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows - Springtime Senior Celebration
The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows is a Roman Catholic shrine devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary located on 80 beautifully landscaped acres in Belleville, Illinois, east of the Mississippi River.  The outdoor Shrine was named from the legend that snow fell on the Basilica of Saint Mary in Rome in the summertime.

It's considered one of the largest outdoor shrines in North America, and has become a known beautiful place to visit just across the Mississippi from Saint Louis, Missouri.  The Shrine is run by Oblates … (4 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Sequel: Easy to Make Spring Orchid Arrangement - 05/06/11 09:45 AM
Sequel: Easy to Make Spring Orchid Arrangement
I love orchids and flowers. Cut flowers in a vase in an open house adds warmth and smiles to guests when they enter the property. But it can be expensive if you don't have a flower garden you can harvest cuttings from.
So, I made these arrangements that I use for my open houses, or for staging purposes. They are very simple, foolproof, and inexpensive. They don't need tending, watering, and can be used repeatedly.  If you're inclined to try, I posted the process here: Easy to Make Spring Orchid Arrangement.
The arrangements below were made using the steps linked above.  With … (12 comments)

Easy to Make Spring Orchid Arrangement
Really, this is easy--no hot glue involved. It's the kind of project that can be done in thirty minutes, provided you have the materials on hand. The finished product can be used for staging the bathroom, fireplace mantel, or any nook that needs some color. It makes a difference to a vacant house and provides the perception of warmth.

For this project, I bought the materials from hobby stores like, Michael's or WalMart:- a glass vase, decide how tall you want the arrangement to be- two branches of tall, silk orchid with pointy green leaves- two tall … (9 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Two Little Cameras - 05/04/11 04:27 PM
This is probably nothing new.  After finishing at the Realtor® Expo in Collinsville, Illinois today, and after dinner, I find myself scrambling for something to blog about.  It's now 9:15 PM here in O'Fallon, IL and my brain is not engaged and the clock is ticking!  I decided to look at my picture albums and see if something will gel.
A kernel of an idea.  I like my Samsung TL34 HD wide angle digital camera with Schneider-Kreuznach Zoom 6.0-21.6 mm lens.  I bought it two years ago for $250 and it's been a great little all around camera.  It has video … (7 comments)

31 days of may challenge: What's At the End of Your Rainbow? - 05/02/11 03:19 PM
What's At the End of Your Rainbow?
It's been four years since I joined ActiveRain, but unlike many who blog every day, the most I've posted in a month is 11, back in April 2011 and November 2009.  No more... for the first time since being a member here, I'm now holding myself accountable to blog the 31 Days of May Challenge.
What's changed?  The realization that I already comment frequently, so with a little bit more effort, I can post articles as well.  If no one reads them, that is OK, if no one comments, that is OK, too.  But … (12 comments)
