The (Modern Day Gypsy) is wondering where are your (Ancestor's) from?

The (Modern Day Gypsy) is wondering where are your (Ancestor's) from?

As everyone knows deep - deep down we are one big family and people have (Ancestor's) from all over the world.

The reason that I have posted a pic of Europe is because on my father's side his (Ancestor's) came from Czech Republic and my mother's (Ancestor's) came from Romania.

I have spoken with my grandparents when they were alive and the recall both on my father's & mother's side that many years ago they were gypsies. So that explains why I like to travel so much and go to new places, kind of like a "Rolling Stone" or "Midnight Rambler"

I guess you could call me a The (Modern Day Gypsy)!

My relatives have traced back our family tree and I would like to go over to Europe some day in the future and pay a visit to some of the areas where my (Ancestor's) lived. I think it would be very interesting.

So my question to you is ............... Where are your (Ancestor's) from?

Hi Robert,

Love the map.

For me it's the Netherlands, grandparents arrived and were processed through Ellis Island. Fortunately for me I visited Ellis Island last Dec., it was an amazing experience. Standing in the same building that my grandparents did upon their arrival to America. It was a very special experience that I will always remember.

Hi Robert ~ Nice map!  I did genealogy years and years ago when I was in grade school - well before the internet changed the hobby quite a bit. My grandfather was doing my mother's side and I did my father's. Most everybody was from England or Scotland.  Someday I'll get back to it - it's really a fun and fascinating hobby.

PS - I don't usually use spellcheck but it sure is nice to have when trying to spell "genealogy"!

Robert - Interesting indeed and I do hope you have the chance to go to Europe. Although born and raised in Germany, close to the Czech Republic - I'm not a "Modern Day Gypsy" by a long short. Growing up in a small town, I was always fascinated when gypsies came to our town and camped out and performed their art in the ring of a circus.

Hi Bob.  My Dad's family came from Scotland, and my Mom's family, well, I'm not sure.  I do know they came from Oklahoma - - - proof is in the names of my mothers older brother and sister who were twins, named "OK" and "LAHOMA" - I  kid you not!  :-)

My ancestors arrived in this country approximately 9 years after the Mayflower landed (early 1600s).  We were primarily Dutch and English, but over the centuries, we melted a bit.  I'm French, Dutch, Irish, Scottish, German, and English.  I'm too diluted to be of any political strength to any ethnic group. . .I kinda like it that way:-)

My ancesters were gypsies too!  I quess I am a "Modern Day Gypsie".  My grandparents talk to me about it.  No wonder we all like art, traveling, and playing music so much!  We are mostly from the Czech Republic.  It was Bohemia when we were there.  Whoo!

Abby - I want thank you young lady for coming around to my blog and welcome you any time to view my photographs that take people around the world.

I will be traveling to Thailand, New Zealand and Myanmar (Burma) South East Asia to take photographs. Make sure you come back around to take a look.

I also want to go visit my home land where my relatives come from and brush up on my heritage. When you get older I hope you get to travel all around the world like me because that is what us (Modern Day Gypsies) like to do.

I hope you stop by again soon!

Robert, great European map. My father's and mother's parents and their ancesters were born in the Azores off Portugal. I am full Portuguese descent. My ancesters came from S. Miguel (Sao Miguel), known as "The Green Island",  the largest and most populated island of the Azores  S. Miguel island has a surface area of approximately 293 square miles (759 km2). S. Miguel's population is around 150.000 inhabitants.

jRobert - what a fun post.  I think I'm related to Myrl... my ancestors are English, Irish, Dutch, French, Swiss, French and German... but mostly I am a citizen of the world.

I was in Turkey once and my guide commented on how Turkey, as one of the 3 cradles of civilization, is probably where we are all from.  When I looked at the ruins, I realized she is right.... that is my history too.  I felt a bond, even though it is a totally unrelated country from me.
