Have you spent timeless hours on your blog content? Do you make sure to always link, and give "love" to people you draw information from to write your blogs? Is your content copyrighted? Have you been copied by someone else? Do you even know if someone is copying your work?

Guess what?

There is an easy tool that will sniff the whole entire internet for your work, over 35 billion pages! It will then send the results to your RSS reader, give you the exact address to the copy cats, let you know if they linked to your original work, and it will tell you if they are making money off of your work!

I read a blog by Bill Gassett called There Are Plagarizers Among Us and he outlined a simple way to search for plagiarizers. He would copy a paragraph into Google and search for copies of his blogs. He would have to search every blog he wrote, and this can be very time consuming. There is a better way Bill, and I am here to help!

How you say?

A new tool called FairShare. It's super easy to install, and it will send you updates every time it finds an article that resembles yours on the internet. You may have heard of CopyScape, but you have a limited amount of times you can use it for free. They will then charge you if you want to add the premium service. I like free.

FairShare will send you automatic updates directly to your favorite Rss Reader!

Let's start with the basics: What is an Rss Reader

RSS (an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format - Wikipedia

An RSS reader is a great way to read blogs. You subscribe to your favorite blogs through an RSS Feed so you don't have to go searching for them. When a new blog is written from your subscribed blog, it will automatically populate into your reader. The Benefit? You will know when a new blog is written, and you won't have to go to all the blogs you have subscribed to. They come to you!

This is what the universal icon looks like for an RSS Feed:

How Do I Get An Rss Feeder On My Blog?

This is they key to FairShare. You must have an RSS feed for your blog. Don't get overwhelmed I am going to show you exactly how to get one for your blog!

Step 1.- Go to FeedBurner

Step 2. - Register for an account, you will need to get a Google Account to register since Google has purchased FeedBurner. (The great thing about this account is you can also use Google's RSS reader for free, Google Analytics, and all of Google's free software!)

Step 3. - Sign into your Google Account. This is easy just go to Google.com and in the top right corner there will be a button that says Sign In.  If you don't see the Sign in button and it says "My Account", your already signed in.

Step 4. - Once you have registered for a Google Account, and logged in, go to FeedBurner with your account. You can now "burn your RSS Feed." Don't worry it's really simple!

Here's How

Once you log into feed burner you will see a screen like this:

Feed Burner Account

When you get to this screen just add your blog's address into the box. Your's should look similar to mine. Hit the next button and you have just burned your new feed! Pretty easy right? Once you burn the feed, it will take you to the next page. This page will let you name your feed whatever you like.

(It auto populates the name with the name of your blog, I just left mine at that.)

Step 5. - Now that you have your feed burned, you need to "Publicize it." You can do this by copying and pasting the HTML code it gives you into your blogs "description" box in your settings button. To find this just go to your blog and on the left hand side there will be a button that says: Settings Click there, and in the description box ( the 2nd box down) is where you enter in your HTML Code.

(This is the same box you copied and pasted your "Get Clicky" HTML code, or any of your widgets HTML code.)

How Do I Get My Feed Burner HTML Code?

After you name your RSS feed, and decide the settings you want, all you have to do is hit the button at the top that says "Publicize." Once you hit this button you have numerous options on how you can get your readers to subscribe to your blog.

Step. 6 - On the left hand side of your "Publicize" page you will see a button that says, "Chicklet Chooser."

Hit this button, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, hit "Activate." Once you activate, it will take you to the same page as the "Chicklet Chooser" page, except there is one little difference. The HTML code will be at the bottom. You can copy this HTML code and paste it into your blogs description.

(You do this by hitting the Settings button on the left hand side of your blog's home page. After you click this button it will take you to your Blog Settings page. In the second box down, in the Blogs Description, paste the code here.)

Ok now we have our feed burned, and our RSS feed on our blog.

Now What?

With your newly subscribed Google Account. You need to sign up for the Google Reader. (If you already have a blog reader, don't worry, you can use any reader you want.) Sign into your Google account, or hit the "My Account" button from Google.com.

Let's get our FairShare account activated, and we can see who is stealing our precious content!
