BC Home Inspectors Need To Be Licenced by March 31, 2009

Effective March 31, 2009 Home Inspectors in BC will have to be licensed.


British Columbia is the first Province in Canada to Licence home inspectors.
Victoria Building Inspectors

Licensing will fall under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA)by March 31, 2009.

  • Assessing the qualifications of and requiring mandatory Licensing for home inspectors.
  • Receiving and responding to complaints from Consumers.
  • Monitoring compliance through inspections and enforcement, with Penalties that can range as high as $5,000

To become licensed, and inspector will need to meet the qualifications of either the Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspectors BC Branch; the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia; or the National Certification Program for Home and Property Inspectors.

Be sure that any home inspectors you hire are qualified for the particular type of building involved and carry appropriate Errors and Omissions Insurance.

Hi Kathy...It's a fine line, we cannot recommend anyone one inspector, as we can be held accountable if that inspector makes mistakes. I can only suggest to my Buyer an inspector that indicates they are qualified to inspect the type of home that requires inspection by my Buyer.

Cheers, the good news the BC Government has set a standard be having all Building inspector by requiring they all be Licensed in BC.

Wow surprising that you did not need a license before. I guess Canada is a lot less strict that the States!

Hi Bill..BC is the First Province to require licensing for Home Inspectors, many home inspectors belong to a national association and already have Errors and Omission Coverage, so it's real a yawn here.
