A Feng Shui Consultant in Smithtown Long Island New York

Coming home from a Feng Shui Consultation on Long Island last week, we passed it-The Smithtown BULL.  Anyone who is from Long Island is familiar with this Bull and he's located on a very busy intersection.  Still, LOCALISM was calling me-and risking life and limb, I managed to get a few shots of him.

Meet WhisperHe's pretty famous around here but more for directions..."Make a Right at the Bull" is pretty common to hear.  So is "You can't MISS it" - and you CAN'T.

Smithtown Long Island by New York Feng Shui ConsultantMeet Whisper

The Smithtown Long Island Bull is 14 Feet high and was erected in honor of the Founder of Smithtown.  (I'm pausing here to see if you can guess his name : )

Smithtown Bull by Feng Shui Long Island & New York

Legend has it that Mr. SMITH made a deal with the Indians.  They would allow him to keep any land that he covered while riding his Bull, Whisper, in one day.  No one knows if this legend is true or not, but it's a fun tale.

It is not always well known how many people fought over Long Island.  The Indians were overtaken by the English, who were taken over by the Dutch until the English got it back.  There are only a very few small places that the Indians still inhabit on Long Island.  They have a Pow Wow every year and if you start off very early in the morning, you just might make it.

Long Island New York is full of history.

What a neat story!  You know, Durham has its own bull.  I just haven't made it downtown to take his picture yet.  :)  But I will!

Very interesting...so how much land is he said to have gotten from his ride?  I love these types of tales.

Carole, I love hearing stories like this.  Do people really ride bulls?  The thought conjures up visions of rodeos and riders being thrown 15 feet into the air.  Had that been the case, Smithtown would have been awfully small.  LOL

Carole ~ Knowing that area you certainly did take your life in your hands getting those pictures! Whenever I do a consultation in Smithtown, I always ask "after the Bull" or "before the Bull" - he's my landmark!

Hi Carole -- that is a lot of BULL (lol)!  Very interesting to read how the bull got to be there in the first place.  Glad you are safe.  Funny what we will go to for the localism posts! Be careful.

Marchel, It's huge :)  And best known for directions because everyone knows where he is :)  Some day I will ride out to take shots of our "Flanders" Duck.

Gary, Didn't you live on Long Island for a while?  I would have thought you'd know Whisper well :)

Kate, It's a horrible intersection.  The first shot I took was from across the street but it had cars in the way.  The things we do to get a picture :)

Alexsandra, I wasn't laughing when I took it--now I can.  I can't believe what I do for photos (and many other people on here as well!).

HI Deb, We have rain right now...I'm just glad it's not snow!  I signed UP for Twitter, darned if I can figure that site out :(

Liz, One of our well known Long Island things that are still around.  The story is the legend, no one is really sure how Mr. Smith got Smithtown.

Tom, For a full day, no less--I can't imagine myself.  It's a legend but I like it :)

Carol, Isn't that for a team there?  Your Durham Bull?  I seem to remember a movie called "Bull Durham"  Your bull is more famous!!

Kathy, Smithtown is pretty big--it HAS to be a legend but it's a fun one.  I should have checked the square mileage of the town but I didn't think of it.

Maggie, I do believe he HAD a bull because it's name is Whisper.  Whether the legend is true I don't know.  But Smithtown is NOT small....I'd have to wonder.

Gita, Be careful in that intersection!!  And don't get out of the car, I'm telling you it's not safe :)!

Paddy, I am thinking you have fun things where you are as well...and great events.  I need to make the time for some road trips this summer!

Diane, That's cute, thank you for the new title.  I think I'll add that to my profile somewhere :)

Kathy, It's frightening, isn't it?  I've been told that for years, "just make a right at the bull."  Funny thing is, it works :)

Joni, I am SO GLAD to see you and SO GLAD you're back!!  I would love to see your home....and the colors.  BTW, my living room is a light gold and the accents are red--I love it!

Laurie, I have no idea.  Even before the first time I saw him, I'd heard of it.  Someday I will get out  to the Flanders Duck!

Joan, It's ridulous what we will go through for a photo!  But I thought it was important to post our very own Long Island Bull (I could say a lot here but I won't!).

We used to give directions from Paul Bunyan a 30 foot tall talking and moving lumberjack.  They moved him to the other side of town and I have been lost ever since.

Kathy, I enjoy it as well.  There were SO many things I never knew existed before I started reading blogs on here.

Tracy, Who knows, I may end up there one day.  I do hear it's beautiful and you have a lot of New Yorkers (more on the way with the new budget they passed!).

Ah, Kathleen, that's just plain MEAN :)  I would love to see this Lumberjack, he must be quite a sight!

Carole:  In reading your post... and with your description of how many "peoples" fought over Long Island... I found myself feeling somewhat sad at the first phrase which read... "the Indians were "overtaken" by the English."  Maybe I am just in a "mood..." but it just made me feel sad.  Thanks so much for sharing... take care...

Now... just to know... I think I'll go Google Long Island to try and learn some of the earliest history of such a wonderful place.  Again... take care...

And, now I know the history of it too!

Thank you!

Karen Anne, It actually made me sad as well.  The Indians were here and had claimed this beautiful Island.  There are one or two small places left to them...and they are being "regulated."  It is sad, I agree.

Craig, He's great for that!  I was never able to get a picture before, that intersection is a nightmare :)
