If You Are Going To Spam Me, At Least...

...Spam Me Adroitly...so I learn how to diffuse all your tricks.

I recently received a spammy email from an Active Rainer couple.

Problems with the email:

  1. It was spam, plain and simple.
  2. You did not include your city.
  3. You did not include your town.
  4. You did not include your company.
  5. You included about 100 other email addresses, which I could use for spamming, if I were a spammer...
  6. Your information was rather silly and so overused...
  7. Your Title had little to do with your content.
  8. You included links to click on: NO sane person clicks a link on an email from an unknown entity.
  9. You gave no reason to click the link anyway because the information was IN the email (encourage a click for more...).
  10. Unfortunately, many people addressed on the email probably DID click the link. This will give your website traffic, but it's not White Hat...

Moral:

  1. Please don't spam us fellow Rainers.
  2. Don't click links unless you know how to analyze the true link destination...or
  3. Give me a seriously compelling reason to click your link...and I still won't click it, but I may go on line to search you more and then type in your address.
  4. White "Hat SEO" basically implies, "would your grandmother approve...

I get same from fellow Rainers frequently.  I always wonder why they bother.  We get lots of spam from the regular jockeys who still think realtors have deep pockets.  If we are still standing, it's because we focus our dollars and don't employ odd tactics to attract clients.  We know what works, and we work it!

Did you report them to Active Rain? Just click the button at the bottom of the page that says "Contact Active Rain". Then copy and paste the message into the message you're sending to AR, and include the link from the AR e-mail too. The account will be blocked at the level of the IP address!

Let it all out Brett! And I agree. Getting spam is bad enough but from members of AR just makes it worse.

Don, Lisa: Thanks for the feedback. I don't want to report them; I think they didn't really understand what they were doing...

Ken: Our favorite loan expert in GA...thanks for the response; again, I think it was fairly harmless, though they could have at least BCC'd everyone on the email...

After receiving two more of their unsolicited emails, I simply responded with a link to this blog; boy, did I get blasted!

I receive them from all networks. Somehow spammers find the way to send you all those ''we have your money!'', ''let's get to know each other, I'm lonely girl'', etc. Warms your heart to press ''delete''.
