Fine tooth Comb on Tax Credit for First time Home Buyers

Just wanted to pass this experience on that happen to me yesterday.

I have a closing Tomorrow in Cornelius NC and my client already did her taxes.  So told her that she would have to wait till next year to claim the $8000.00......right?

Well  learned that she can file for an extention after the closing and but in this case it did not matter due to we are closing before April 15th and the government is still going to send her a $8000.00 back towards her this year!!

Chalked that under something that you learn everyday!!!

Hope this Helps some of you working  with First time Home Buyers.

Hi Brock - it's true you can take the tax credit on your 2008 returns.  If you have already filed your 2008 tax return you can still get the money by filing a 2008 amended return!  Check it out here.

Brock -

This is not new information, but is a great example of why real estate agents and REALTORS® alike must be fully informed about the new home buyers tax credit.  Although we are not here to provide tax or legal advise, we offer a disservice to our clients - especially first time home buyers - if we are not up to speed on the issues that affect our careers and their livelihood.
