If you've always enjoyed the "fair season" in Lancaster County which happens in September and October, don't miss the annual East Petersburg Day event this year. In it's 13th season, the event got its start as a Rotary celebration but soon expanded to include all the residents of the town.
Last year the event was the biggest ever, with performers of all sorts including Dwayne Slaymaker, magicians Mike Snyder & Donna, Unicycle Sam, BRB and other musical talents on the stage. There are kids games and food for everyone. Many booths are sponsored by local businesses and community organizations sich as the womens club, historical society, boy & girl scouts and sports teams. The day starts with the annual 5K run around a course set through the borough. After that a parade winds through town, ending at the Community Park where the invocation is given and festivities kick off. From about noon until dark, the park is open and pretty busy as families from all across the area bring their kids to enjoy the fun and games.
The LifeLion helicopter is scheduled to arrive at one point in the afternoon, as are skydivers. There are lots of other things going on as the daylight fades. A central event is the "golf ball drop" game where folks buy chances (a golf ball with a number on it) and the fire company drops all the balls from a hook & ladder. The closest ball to the golf pin planted below wins a grand prize. Lastly, a great fireworks show lights up the night as the event draws to a close.
