A short cut to pay day for real estate agents?

By
Home Stager with Staging Diva / Six Elements Inc.

Home SoldI can't imagine spending weeks on end driving clients around to see one disappointing property after another. One peak inside and you know you probably wouldn't buy any of these houses either! Yet there you are flicking on the lights and stepping over the clutter, hoping against hope that someone will actually make a decision and you'll actually see a payday in a few months.

I can't imagine spending money on desk fees, fliers and advertising month after month, no closer to unloading those listings despite the price reductions. Knowing these are dead listings, yet having to put on a cheery and optimistic voice for your clients who keep asking why their home hasn't sold already.

I can't imagine what it's like to try and ignore the reality that there are about 1.4 million real estate agents in North America. if we assume that the top 20% are doing about 80% of the business, that's a lot of "employed" but "broke" people!

Home buyers are in control in this real estate market and they feel no urgency to buy, unless you give them a compelling product!

Agents, wouldn't you like to stop showing and listing disappointing product? Wouldn't you like to show something that people can walk into and say "wow"? Aside from being less depressing and more inspiring, can you see how showing well staged homes would also be a short cut to your pay day as an agent?

Staging works!!!  I try to pass the word all over town...you can take a dreary house and make it look warm and inviting.  Makes our job so much easier :)

WONDERFUL... simply WONDERFUL.

Debra, we share the same "target". It is tiem to get these "fence sitting realtors" off their butts.

Keep watching my blog... cause that is the underlying goal of whatever I right.

I would think that when a Realtor lists a home that he/she knows is cluttered, dirty, and packed with dated "stuff", they must get a sick feeling in their gut knowing that it won't sell. As stagers, we can take away that sick feeling, and give Realtors a great feeling in their gut about their listed properties.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Craig, your "preaching to the choir" comment on my blog post "Home Staging Doesn't Work" is actually what motivated this one.

Just as you and Craig have both pointed out so aptly, this is why my company is so successful in getting staging jobs.  We target agents who are actually interested in getting a paycheck!  I don't happen to feel it is any coincidence that the top producing agents from more than one local RE company happen to use our services!  I am certain, and best of all so are they, that they are the top producing agents BECAUSE they use our services!

Great post Debra!  I couldn't agree more and you have made a very convincing argument.  I don't understand why some are so slow to grasp the concept that staging is a positive step in the right direction.  Thanks for sharing!

Debra, great post as usual.  You have a real knack for getting to the meat of the matter in few words.  I am just getting started and it is mystifying why more realtors ignore staging and post pix of cluttered homes, a driveway with a truck and recycling bin showing and no evidence of where the front door to the house is???

Melissa, how did you get those realtors off their butts?
