When I was a kid, brussel spouts were the worst vegetable you could put on my plate. They tasted bitter, mushy and awful. I would do my best to eat as many as I could, but it was not an easy task. And since becoming an adult, I'd managed to stay away from that particular veggie.
About two months ago I was in a local supermarket. They had a brussel sprout dish that was very visually appealing in their prepared food case. I boldly went out on a limb and asked for a sample. YUM! This was not the way I remembered brussel sprouts. They pleased my palette. Couldn't believe it!
Since then, I've eaten them about once a week. Every time I am delighted. But had I not stepped outside my own memories, I would not know that brussel sprouts are acually quite tasty.
It never hurts to try something new. Or to try something you previously disliked. You might surprise yourself.
