Presenting Kylie

KylieKylie is a female Australian Shepherd (Red Merle).  She also has some Catahoola Leopard Dog in her which gives her those unique colorings.   You can see from the photos that her coat is a mix of 5 different colors: white, black, gray, light brown and dark brown.

Kylie was adopted from the Atlanta Humane Society.   She just turned 7 years old and she is a very well behaved dog.   She is a sweet as can be.   She is more interested in meeting and being around humans than she is interested in meeting new dogs.   When she is at a dog park, she prefers to stay around his master's feet then wonder off or chase after other dogs.   She likes to follow her master around then lead the way.   She loves going on long walks and she keeps pace with her master and never pulls on her leash.   She loves it when she hears the letters w-a-l-k and will immediately jump with joy to indicate that she is ready and wants to go on a walk.

Kylie loves to play ball and has received some Frisbee training.   However, she rarely catchesKylie playing Frisbee the Frisbee in the air preferring instead to wait till it drops before grabbing it and bringing it back.   Kylie is not only cute and well behaved, she is also very intelligent.   She has learned and performs several tricks including more difficult ones such as dance, roll over and stay.   With the stay command, you can go as far as 100 feet from her and she will patiently wait for you until you callKylie playing Frisbee her to come.   In return of being obedient and doing the tricks on command, she expects to get treats and especially after a roll over which is not something she is too found of executing but she will do it if she is rewarded with a treat.

Kylie and Barkley in Red Lodge with Rainbow in the BackgroundKylie loves her new surroundings in Red Lodge, Montana.  She has a brother by the name of Sir Barkley which she plays with.  Even though she is stockier than her brother, and does not run as fast as Sir Barkley, she loves to be chased by him and uses 360 degrees turn and turns around obstacles to outsmart him and prevent him from quickly catching her.  Eventually, her brother catches her and she lets him grab her by her neck and pull her down but she is very quick to get back on her feet and try to lose him again.   Her brother is more agile and has more stamina but she is the one who controls the level of play and lets him know when she had had enough.

Kylie is also a great watch dog.  She immediately notifies his master when there is any kind of activity going outside the house (a visitor approaching the entrance of the house or a wild animal hanging out on the front yard).  She is also very sweet as she likes to watch over his master and stay besides him if he happens to fall asleep on the couch at night.  She makes an excellent life companion and I am so grateful she came into my life.  She's got style, she's got grace, she is a winner...

Norma,

Thank you for your comment.  Sorry to learn that you lost two dogs in the past year.   You know best when the timing is right to get a new bundle of joy.

Susan,

Thank you for sharing the photos of your Australian Shepherds.  I also named Kylie after Kylie Minogue.   At the time I adopted her from the Atlanta Human Society, the song "I Can't Get You Out of My Head" was very popular on the radio.  It is nice to see what a Red Merle looks like when they are not mixed with a Catahoola Leopard Dog.   Life is sure more beautiful with them.

Eric,

Tilda has a great facial expression.  I can see them being 2nd cousins.   Thanks for visiting this post.

I don't have Shepherds but I am a big advocate of shelter dogs.  Good for you and I am glad to see her so happy.  I have posted my two rescues below.  They are quite the couple and keep life exciting.

Gerry,

A "good" pet is a gift and hard to find. I am blessed also with two that are a pleasure.

Karen,

Thank you for your positive comments.

Bob & Carolin,

You're welcome.

Robert,

You are welcome.  The one with the rainbow is one of my favorites of the two dogs together.   It is difficult to get them to stay still for a long time (especially Sir Barkley).

Terry,

They are gifts and I feel blessed too.

Gerry, this is a really sweet post and the pictures of your dogs are terrific.  I have never owned an Australian Shepherd but had a neighbor once in South Carolina who did - I was so impressed by the two dogs because of their friendliness, intelligence and obedience.  Hope you have many years ahead of enjoyment with them.

She is such a sweetie. I'm not surprised she calls the shots - she's the female after all LOL

I never would have guessed her and Sir Barkley were brother and sister - very different.

Renée,

Thank you for your nice comments.  Australian Shepherds are one of those nice dog breeds and they are great around people and especially kids.  All of my 3 dogs have some Australian Shepherds.  If you get the chance, please do check some of my recent doggie posts.  Not only are the pictures terrific but they are terrific dogs.   That is why I called them the Terrific Trio in my most recent posts featuring all 3 of them together.   This reminds me that I should get a new post for this Terrific Trio.  :)

Pam,

Kylie is as sweet as they can get!   The use of "brother and sister" is a figure of speech.  I use it because they are part of my family and they love each other as good brothers and sisters do.
