NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTOR'S NEW GREEN DESIGNATION

By
Real Estate Agent with COLDWELL BANKER RESIDENTIAL BROKERAGE

I just completed the core course requirement for my NAR GREEN certification and it was unbelievably enlightening.  The course encourages the real estate professional to become an advocate for Green principles in the design and use of homes and to become a positive force for creating sustainable communities.  The next step is to take the Elective follow up course in April that specifically targets a field of interest and/or expertise - residential, commercial or property management.

I am very excited about this initiative and plan to ride this GREEN wave all the way in the residential field for the benefit of future generations.

Congratulations Gloria!  I just attended a Green Homes Expo and there was a short presentation about the designation by a local Realtor.  Very interesting.  I think it'll be very worthwhile especially if you get into it early on.

I've heard other advocates of the Green Designation. Tell us more. Did you do it online? In the classroom? What was required?

Hi Vickie,

I am interested in the subject and believe that we need to take steps today to protect our Environment.  I first learned of the NAR designation from a LEED builder in Princton. After doing a little investigation I also learned that there is an EcoBroker designation available too however NAR only recognizes the GREEN designation.

You must be a NAR member in good standing and it requires a 3-day class and passing an exam after the Core Course is completed.  I have been told that all or part of the course will be offered online soon.

I think it is a fantastic program and we as Realtors should be better prepared to talk with GREEN buyers and sellers.
