I Love Men!

By
Home Stager with Judy Heinrich Home Staging

While staging several occupied listings these past two weeks, I've come to the conclusion.... I LOVE MEN!  They just get it without any questions asked!

I'll explain...  The majority of the time I stage an occupied listing, the homeowner is there.  I like that.  I like the extra help and I like to get to know them.   I even think it helps them detach from their home when they get involved in the process and understand why we do what we do.  While I'm working I always try to explain why I'm removing something or why I'm doing what I'm doing.  I have to say, I often encounter resistance from the women of the house... but the men... Never!  (well I did have one husband that wasn't happy about his gigantic TV removed, but he did agree to remove it and watch a smaller TV)   From the women, I hear many stories about their collections why they have something the way they have it, or how much they paid for something that I want removed, etc.  They attach "feelings" to things... men don't.  Men are problem solvers, they just look for the solution.

This week I've had the pleasure to work with two outstanding husbands!  First, I had a husband who moved every piece of furniture to the attic that I wanted moved.  No questions asked.  I wanted peach curtains removed to open up the view to the fantastic lake.  Immediately, he was there taking down the curtains, rods, patched and painted.  It was truly a wonderful experience to have such a willing homeowner.   Yesterday I encountered another gem.  The husband was fantastic.  Some rooms in the house were painted very bright or dark colors (ceilings included).  The wife said they wouldn't paint.  The husband said he would do it this weekend!  I mentioned I wanted a recliner and part of a sectional removed from the family room.  Next time I walked in the room it was already gone!

So I just wanted to take a moment to say I've had so many wonderful home sellers and appreciate all the hard work they do as well in preparing their homes for sale and also say... YOU MEN ROCK!

It's good to feel appreciated! Of course, that "not attaching emotion to anything" trait apparently only really helps us out in this case. Because we seldom keep the tickets from the first concert we saw with our significant others, or the maybe that first love letter we got from you - and so on.

It's our gift, and our curse.

Judy, I've had some guys like that too and it is just great.  And, by the way, thanks for the referral on the Palmyra home.  They have a proposal in hand.  C

Do you know what Judy?  You're absolutely right!  I hadn't thought much about it until reading your post, but quite often it's the female seller who offers the most resistance!

That being said, I love the guys too!

Judy, that is exactly the way I like to work. Get the clients involved and they benefit far more by learning the whys and the where's and we benefit by the extra help. Good post.

Judy - I am totally with you.  I say give me a handy homeowner any day.  To date my two favorite homes that I have staged have both been male clients.  I think it was that they just let me do my job.  They did not think they knew better.  They wanted to make more money and if removing the peach curtains or ugly wallpaper was going to help them achieve that goal they were all for it.  So I have to agree - I love MEN too!

Val - I hadn't thought about it much either, until this past week when I worked with both and was so happy after each staging.

Sheron - And when they learn why, there's less resistance!

Maureen - Maybe the men just realize it's easier to "go with the flow"!

Katleen - We are different... something about Venus and Mars... I never did read the book though.

I agree, I love when my men are there on a job because THEY get the job done and all the furniture moved, which is a blessing! Now one of those men happens to be my husband SO he is not always so agreeable, but yes when the husbands are there the job GETS done.

The title of your blog got MY attention:)

You're right, when the men get it........the staging works like a well-oiled machine. I find that men respond to the $$$$$$ that the staging will bring them.....that's the bottom line. Stats. As soon as I let them know quoted average percentages and increased values..........they're all about the staging!

great job!

This was so fun to read -- great blog.  I had an appointment today.  Father and son.  They took in everything I said; heads nodding, no questions asked!  We will see if they follow through!
