Real as in real estate. What a fascinating topic!
What's real? What a great job I have! I can work as much as I want, go to the gym in the middle of the day (but then I waste precious prospecting time), take a vacation (but then I don't get paid)... Okay, the reality is that if you are in real estate, you are a workaholic.
What's unreal? Every person you meet is a real estate expert. He (I'm not being anti-men, just using the masculine gender for simplicity) will start off by asking: 'How's the real estate market?' and will go on to tell you how the real estate market is based on what he read in the newspaper and what he saw on TV. Finally, when he winds down, he'll walk off as he's lost interest in you.
What's real? You are your own boss not counting your sellers (frequently: why has no one come to see the home?) and buyers (I saw this home on the internet, can we go see it today?).
What's unreal? Every buyer has a friend (or neighbor or brother or uncle) who is the expert and the one the buyer consults because of the one home he has bought!
What's real? Your cost of marketing. Some months, you have spent more on marketing than you earned. And the hours you have spent doing $10 per hour jobs (mailing Just Listed cards).
What's unreal? The list of new listings and contracts put up on the office notice board by the other agents in your office!
That's enough for starters!
