Legalize it Today! And by “it” I Mean EVERYTHING!!!

Real Estate Agent with Eau Claire Realty, Inc.

There has been a lot of talk lately about legalizing marijuana and other drugs. There are many obvious reasons why the current laws are not only absurd but racist in design and execution. That’s another whole long series of books and if you are not aware I suggest doing some research. But why all the sudden everyone is talking about this I am not quite sure. It used to be a subject that was often whispered about but seldom talked about. Why there is this fear of discussing a law that is so harmful and obviously illogic really bothers me. In fact I was afraid to even write this post because then of course there is this presumption that I myself must be on drugs. But that’s not the case. It’s just absurd that we have these ridiculous laws based on falsified, unscientific data when every real study shows completely different data. There is absolutely no reason or justification for any of it.

But I do feel ok talking about it now that the mainstream media has picked up on the story and now for some reason they are ok with it. For the entire Reagan era this was a subject that was rarely argued in a rational manner. Our prison population filled and filled and filled. Maybe that’s why 20 years later we are finally talking about this again. It took a major recession and state governments to be bankrupted to finally realize that the system is not only broken it’s been broken from the start. It was never fair. It was never just. It was just something we did. I feel so sorry for all the people affected by this mess. We have more people in prison in our country than anywhere else in the entire world. What does that tell me? We are one messed up country.

So like I said people are talking and the media is talking. Here is a good article on the subject. It needs to end. We can’t afford it monetarily, spiritually or socially. The madness needs to stop. It’s not about people getting high. It’s about justice and finding a rational and logical solution. All the money spent and all the drug wars have done nothing to stop it.

Simply put, I agree with you Shane.  Especially on marijuana when we have alcohol, cigarettes, and certain pharmaceuticals that can be or are more addictive and dangerous.  I've never been a "pot head" myself, but I fail to see why that is a criminalized activity... unless one is driving while doing it.

Yeah exactly. It just does not make sense no matter how you look at it. That article pretty much points out how it would basically end crime, violence, wasted spending, etc etc.

Hi Shane ~ I completely agree. It's an atrocity - prisons filled, insanely long terms, huge amounts of money spent, etc. I worked briefly in municipal government and one part of the problem is that police departments get huge amounts of money for this "war on drugs" through grants, property confiscation, etc.  I hope there's an end to this madness.

I saw a speaker tonight the author of White like me. It was interesting. Blacks and Latinos get pulled over at a 3-1 rate compared with whites and yet whites are 4x as likely to have drugs on them. There is an insane disparity. It is just insane there is nothing else to think about it.
