Have you considered making your home “greener”? Going green has been a popular trend lately, and choosing to make your home more energy efficient is a wonderful way to both help the environment and save you money. Even better? Making your home greener is even easier than you might think.

Not all of us can afford to install solar panels in our home, but there are smaller things we can do to make our homes greener. One of the simplest changes we can make is to be more aware of our utility costs. A great way to save money on your heating and cooling bills is to use a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to regulate you heating and cooling temperatures automatically. You can save 5-30% on your bill if it is programmed correctly. Experts suggest keeping the winter temperature around 68 degrees when you are home and 60 degrees when you are gone and at night. For the summer, keep the temperature around 75 degrees when you are home, and 80 degrees when you are gone.

In addition to a programmable thermostat, there are simple, non-technical ways to adjust the temperature of your home- and save you money. Instead of cranking the heat up when it gets chilly outside, you can bundle up or grab a blanket. When it gets hot in the summer, you can keep the A/C low and turn on some fans. Also try turning off appliances when you exit a room, and consider purchasing more energy efficient options.

Going green is one way to save money on your home costs. Kramer Insurance Center can also help you save by providing you with an affordable homeowner’s insurance policy. Visit our site to learn more about your insurance options, or to get a free homeowners insurance quote.
