Several years ago while visiting my hometown of Bachaquero, Zulia State in Venezuela-South America, I realized how much need there was in the School my sister had founded in 1998, she had donated the property where her home had been built and made a school out of it.
I said to myself then, "God if only I could be wealthy enough to help this community and the children in particular to get what they need to have a better school.
They went on to win the 2007 LatinAmerican Education Excellence Award, the Ceremony was held in Panama City, Republic of Panama, even though there were still teaching without the adequate office equipments and basic items needed in a school to function properly, but they had the best Teachers and Leadership.
I was blessed to become a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Spivey in Jonesboro,Ga in 2006 and in 2007 I was appointed as the Director of International Projects, and Voila', the school in Bachaquero was selected as our International Project with the support of the Rotary Club Foundation.
This past February 2009 I traveled to Venezuela and met a group of fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Ciudad Ojeda, together we made the delivery of the items the school had identified as their most needed.
I am so thankful that Rotary International was the instrument to "Make Dreams Real", which was this 2008-2009 Motto, and we truly made it happen.
I hope this creates a buzz in the communities around the world to want to help one another, there is so much to be done, and each one of us can truly Make a Significant Difference.
