Santa Fe Site Seeing - Mission Cafe

Located on a hidden street - East DeVargas is a wonderful little cafe called the Mission Cafe located in the beautifully restored Manuel Valdes home.  The cafe is located behind the San Miguel Mission and the Oldest Home both considered to be the oldest missions and home in the United States.

The Manuel Valdes was the secon Mayor of Santa Fe and friend of Archbishop Lamy who built the Cathedral off the Santa Fe Plaza.  The house eventually passed to his grandson, Joseph Valdes, who himself served as Mayor of Santa Fe from 1972-1976.

The original building dates back to the earliest days of Spanish settlement in Santa Fe.  The well in the fron patio was no doubt one of the very first watering holes in town.  for nearly four hundred years travelers and locals alike have been served here at the crossroads fo the El Camino Real and the santa Fe Trail.

Here are a few of my favorite dishes:

Huevos Rancheros; Smothered Breakfast Burrito; Santa Fe Trail Tacos, Green Chile Stew and the Turkey Sandwich (I like mine with green chile and avocado)

Mission Cafe and Sweet Shop; 239 E. DeVargas; 505-983-3033

Victoria, sounds really good!  The Santa Fe trail taco sounds pretty interesting.
