Disclosure Law and Agency Law!  You Better Follow Them!

Attention all Realtors.  Just a reminder that you better play by the rules and remember that there are serious laws to protect the public and other professionals that work in the correct way.  I know that most of us are very serious about the way we conduct business and protect our clients interests to the fullest, but unfortunately, there are some agents out here that don't!  There is no need to be greedy and crooked.  If you are a good agent and take great care of your clients, you will do great in this business and will make a great living.

Make sure you disclose any interest that you have in a home you are listing on everything (MLS, Yard Signs, Contracts, etc.) and always make sure you represent your client to the fullest and present all offers.

Thank You to all of my fellow Realtors that do play by the rules and conduct business in the correct manner.

I live in abject terror of getting 'sideways' with the law because of a stupid oversight or just stupidity in general.  Good Post.

Hi Nate - Great points made.  You are absolutely correct when you say we need to adhere to legal issues in our industry.  I read information from our state organization often and it still amazes me to see the numbers of agents fined (or have had other disciplinary actions) and the reasons for those actions.

Hi Nate,

Every week, we get a newsletter from our board and there's always a list of realtors who are fined, suspended etc, for not playing by the rules.

David, Irene, Jon and Terry,

Thank you all for commenting on my blog.  This is a very serious issue and some agents like to walk the line.  I wish you all the best.

As easy as it sometimes seems to not play by the rules and let things slide or get over on some issue or another, the bigger picture is just too scary to overlook.  The possible consequences are way too frightening NOT to do the right thing.
