 Wahatoya and the Spanish Peaks

The Spanish, Mexican, Utes, Apache, French and even the Aztec all had names for these beautiful mountains. Travelers, Explores, Trappers, Miners and Settlers have all used these mountains as a land mark. Wahatoya means breasts from the earth, or mothers breasts. Today most people call these mountains the Spanish Peaks.

Very nice Dena, that's a beautiful photo!  I love the red dirt and contrast of the gorgeous blue Colorado sky!

Very nice Dena!  I used to be able to see them when I lived in Colorado Springs.  Sadly I no longer can see them from Denver.

George, after years of hearing how Connecticut isn't like Colorado, from you, I think we should trade houses for a week. I'd love to see the East Coast and I'm sure you would be impressed by the Rocky Mountains.  From where I took this picture this morning I could see approx 100 miles in several directions, despite the wind and blowing dust.

Terry, I've got a BTW for you. Your dads property has a similar view from another direction. Dads property is very, very, very close by.

And yes, from most of Southern Colorado you can see these mountains.

Interesting that these mountains were named mother's breast. I don't always know the names of all the little peaks in the area. But, some friends of mine know the way to my place is past the turnoff after the titty peaks. Sometimes the obvious is the best.

Nice picture. I like the way you are looking out and into the distance.
