The Passaic Valley Office of Emergency Management is looking for volunteers to become part of its emergency response team.

Members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) assist the Passaic Valley OEM - which serves Woodland Park, Little Falls and Totowa - during emergencies.

CERT volunteers must receive 20 hours of training, in which they learn how to respond during local emergencies.

Spring classes will be held April 27 through May 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Little Falls Civic Center on Warren Street. The classes are free, and open to anyone 18 or older.

For more information, or to request an application, please call the Woodland Park OEM at 973-256-1264.

Applications also can be downloaded from the Woodland Park Web site: www.wpnj.us.

I volunteer as a pet and wildlife rescuer during times of emergency. It's a great feeling, although sometimes also sad.
