The NC Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island will offer a variety of maritime skills, boatbuilding, sailing programs and workshops throughout the year in the Creef Boathouse. Theatre of Dare presents: Neil Simon's Rumors!
America's premier comic playwright delighted audiences with this out and out funny offering. Four couples are at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. The party never begins because the host has shot himself in the head (it's only a flesh wound) and his wife is missing. His lawyer's cover up gets progressively more difficult to sustain as the other guests arrive and nobody can remember who has been told what about whom. The 2nd annual season of a new Outer Banks' lecture and discussion series to promote and advance topics relating to the Roanoke Island colony. Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. The Dare County Arts Council produces this annual show honoring Arts Council founder and lifetime supporter of the arts, Mollie Fearing. The show features local paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, stained glass and more! Some of the works will be offered for sale. The show is free and open to the public. Join the United States Air Force Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble for a memorable evening of musical entertainment, under the stars, in the Outdoor Pavilion at Roanoke Island Festival Park . Jockey's Ridge State Park & Jockey's Ridge Crossing (mp 12.5), Nags Head. The oldest continuous Hang Gliding Competition is going back to the past for the Classic Spectacular in 2007. "The Forgotten Colonies: Footprints on 16th Century North America" Lecture
4:00 p.m. Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. A lecture by noted NYU professor Karen Ordahl Kupperman will kickoff Roanoke Island Festival Park's lecture series "The Forgotten Colonies: Europe's Footprints on 16th Century North America." Prof. Kupperman's talk will be titled "The Roanoke Ventures' Achievement Revisited." It will take place in the Film Theater at 4:00 on Saturday, May 19, with a reception to follow. The lecture will serve as a reassessment of her 1984 study Roanoke: the Abandoned Colony, which is being reissued this year. Professor Kupperman will also be on hand for a book signing at the Museum Store from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on that same day. Dr. Stanley South, emeritus professor of archaeology at the University of South Carolina, will give the second lecture of the series on June 16. Dr. South led the archaeological team that excavated the Spanish and French sites at Charlesfort/Santa Elena on Paris Island. For more information please call (252) 475-1500.

5th Annual Coastal Gardening Festival
The Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden, located adjacent to the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center, Mustan Street, Kill Devil Hills. The theme for this year's festival will be Art in The Garden. The focus will be on natural art, always available in the garden. Local school children will be invited to participate.
