A Little Trivia For You! The Olympics!

By
Real Estate Agent with Oakstone Properties, Homes in Richmond VA

April 5th, 1896 was the opening day for the resurgence of the Olympic Games.  There were not as many different competitions as there are in today's games.  The events then were Athletics (we call Track and Field now), Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Shooting, Tennis, Weightlifting, Swimming and Wrestling.  Only 14 countries participated in those games.

An interesting bit of information there.  I guess there were no official credit card, soft drink, or shoe sponsors.

Eric and Richard,

Thanks for the comments.  I guess they were a lot different back in those days.  I wish you both the best.

The Olympics have certainly come a long way since then, haven't they? The great thing I think is not so much all of the games that are now played in the Olympics (because some of them are just dumb), but the number of countries that participate.  That's the most enjoyable part to me!
