Sounth Salem is located in Westchester county about 50 miles north of New York City. South Salem is a hamlet of Lewisboro.

The town of South Salem has a post office, town hall and library. The town of South Salem NY was formed in 1747 when the land was purchased form the natives. At first the town was called “Salem” and was changed to “South Salem” in 1806.

The whole town of Lewisboro, South Salem included, has a population of over 12,000 people in its 29 square miles. Connecticut State borders South Salem to the east. Lewisboro contains many parks, reservations, and preserves along with seven lakes.

Although South Salem does not have its own train station, those looking to commute into the city use the Metro North Purdys or Croton Falls train stations. Both I-684 and I-84 are conveniently located close to the town. The school district for South Salem is Katonah-Lewisboro, which has been named in the top 200 high schools.
