Realtors. Full Staging can be costly, but, there is a benefit to consultations as well

Doing a full staging is not as frequent as I would like it, and money is the issue.  Today our economic condition (here in Canada  is not as bad as the States) is a direct result of credit overload. The cash is not there and the credit is less available.  That is why many people do not want to have stagers in because of cost.

A consultation, paid by the realtor will make a difference.  After the consultation, the client can follow the suggestions resulting in a better outcome than not having any advice at all.  A consult allows the stagers to explain why things should be done.  When a realtor pays for the consult they are setting themselves apart from the others making sure their clients listings have a competitive edge.

I have been staging for 2 years and I also do design.  We know the difference staging makes. Take a look at my website www.gomesdesign.ca for a few before and afters. Some of which were done by the client. Most of my work is consultation based and is directly through agents.   The realtors pay for the consultation as part of their marketing strategy. I can confidently say all my clients have followed through with about 90 % of the suggestions that I make, with excellent results.

Post this on some of the Realtors groups and see what they say.

I get the complaint that the agents are being beat up already and they can't pay for a consultation.

A few really good agents in the area are doing it but it's definitely not the norm

Great point to share.  We do majority of our work with consultations as well, and from March 08-March 09 those homes have been under contract on average of 24 days!--In this market!  These are consultations always paid for by the RE office we work with quite a bit.  It is just part of their marketing package they offer with all their listings.  It obviously pays for itself! They always price it right, like you the clients follow majority of our recommendations, and they always take professional photographs after we are finished with their clients.  This is done by a smaller RE office, not some national name, and they are consistently moving their properties.

Virginia - I know that even realtors have to watch where there money is going, because they put out quite a bit of it when they have listed a house.  Maybe a special rate for  realtors? 20 - 30% off. In design we often give discounts to those we work closely together with. I will have to post this to more realtors.

Julie, I have found even though the final details are not always exactly the way I would have done them.  The work the seller has done has set their home apart from the rest.

Cindy - I agree.  Also the realtors.
