Elevator Pitch- Whether you're buying or selling...

Today is Day 1 of the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge from ProBlogger.  The challenge?  Write an Elevator pitch.

An elevator pitch is described as a statement that can be said within the time limits of an elevator ride.  Does that mean you should be talking during the entire ride, or should you leave room for questions or comments?

What I typically say, briefly, is "My name is Donna Harris and I'm a REALTOR® with RE/MAX.  Whether you're buying or selling your home, I'll be with you every step of the way." I've used this tag line for years.  It's written on almost everything I do, so people recognize it when they see it.

The above gives plenty of time for someone to then ask me how the market is, which opens up a two-way conversation which then allows the other person to be a little more comfortable, in which I can then ask for their card or email address to add to my eNewsletter.

If I can see the other person is just going to continue to stare, I might continue the above with, "I concentrate on Residential real estate, New and Pre-Owned. Have you thought about making a change?"

I really like the elevators with mirrors in them because I can practice to myself when no one else is there.  I think my mouth moves funny when I talk, so I practice my facial expressions.

It is great to use in a full elevator, more bang for your buck.  I agree that it is important to keep a consistant message to everyone that you come in contact with.

Nice Post I love the pic so true! My pitch is "What is your current title company doing to help grow your business?" " I would rather help grow your wallet size than your pant size!" or I like the POWER of the Hey would you be interested in sitting down when you have a minute so I can show you how to increase your business by 25% this year while decreasing your cost?" That one is always a great Value/Pitch and true! Great Blog!

Great blog! I try out new elevator pitches all the time.  My current one:

I sell real estate in about 14 minutes using accelerated auction marketing techniques."

Hi Donna... a GREAT elevator pitch is well worth the time you invest in developing it.  And it works in many other places besides elevators, like in line at the supermarket or on an airplane.  Anywhere with a captive audience! :)

Donna, a very solid pitch, clear and concise. I like your added phrase, "Have you thought about making a change?" Very good open ended one.

Steve, Exactly!  It's meant to be used anywhere, but quickly, as an elevator ride isn't very long.

Gary, THanks! I've learned you're supposed to ask questions to get others to open up.

Hi Donna !!

This is probably one of the most UNDERVALUED pieces of what we do !

Seriously !

It sounds trivial, but sometimes you only get a few seconds to get your point to another person - if you dont have what you want to say down pat, they you often miss out !

Love this post Donna ! I'm all about it !

Cheers !

Sheldon

The best thing to do when you are in an elevator is to have your name tag on display. Everybody wants to talk about real estate! Same holds true when you are shopping or on an airplane.

Alice & Jim, Thanks for stopping by!

Roy, True, to an extent.  I don't wear a name tag because I'm one of those at the store that gets irritated if there are 4 people in line and employees standing around, so I like to call over a manager.  I don't want my name tag on for that...
