I get the coaching thing, but how do you......

I have been an Angel Fan my whole life; really I am third generation Angel fan.  One of my favorite people is Mike Scioscia.  As most of you know, he took my beloved Angels and coached them to perfection.  He has a fundamental understanding of baseball, and how to bring the best out in his players.

I have been told by many people that I need to get a coach.  However I do not know what to look for in a coach.  I am co-owner of a real estate company, a mortgage company, and I am the mother of three children.  So how do I find the perfect coach, or do I try for more than one coach?  As I mentioned, I am the co-owner that means I have a partner.  My partner has a whole set of his own needs, do we share a coach or do we have our own?

I know that the Active Rain community has coaches and people who have coaches.  So give me some advice on finding a coach.

Beth-you pose an interesting question.  Coaching is a very personal thing.  A good place to start is being clear on what you hope to achieve by having a coach.  Are you interested in taking your businesses to a higher level?  If so, which one do you want to work on first?  Are you looking for ways to get more from your personal life?

If you can answer these questions, I think it will be easier for the AR's out there to give you some good direction.

Congrats to you for being open to coaching...that's the first REALLY BIG STEP!

Beth,

I'd guess from your workload that you are already successful, so LESS need for a coach. But then, you are asking, so maybe you want to take things up a notch, or maybe bring some balance to your life. If it is balance, choose your coach wisely. Many of the real estate related coaches will help you get "more busier" and make "more money", but that by itself can push things further OUT of BALANCE. The warmest thought you can go to sleep with is that by simply asking, the universe will (probably) send you the answer. Good luck with this! (I think you'll be fine...)

Hey Beth,  Let us know how you make out with the coaching investigation.  I have never used one but my understanding is they usually push structure and force you to be accountable to their method.  I tend to be self-motivating and never wanted someone cracking the whip telling me what to do but if the payoff works I could reconsider.

Beth,

Coaching can be very beneficial if you go into it with the right mindset. You will have to be willing to change and do things that are out of your comfort zone. I would recommend interviewing several coaches until you find the right fit.

Best of luck to you.

Yes, you need to figure out as everyone said above what you want out of your coach but I think what this blog is really asking is for someone to point you into the direction of finding a coach?  Forgive me if I am wrong in my interepretation. :o)

But if I am not......

I went into the active rain seach feature and typed in "buisiness coach" and a bunch of people came up.  Maybe you can search through those and speak to a couple to help you figure out where to go from here.

Beth,

You don't need a coach. You are your own best coach. Sit back and smell the roses. Stop and take time to reflect back on what you did and how you did it. The things that got you to where you are today. Then look for ways to improve where there is opportunity to improve.

If anything Beth, it should be you that is getting paid fees to do the coaching of others , helping thme become sucessful like you.

Typically a coach can play a role in keeping you focused on either your business or personal goals.

Coaches will generally motivate you to achieve higher goals, help you evaluate your current plan and build a new one if necessary, help you stay on track sometimes through daily or weekly coaching sessions.

I think they can help if you feel like you need a roadmap or help in staying motivated and focused.  They can be great for creating accountability.

Beth,

First, even asking for a coach, a good coach, shows a teachable and open mind and spirit

this is the most important ingredient in the life of a Growing person.

I would read a few books on coaching, realizing that the concept comes from older and more rooted ideas of mentorship, discipleship, counseling, teaching.  Socratic method of coaching while uncomfortable seems to produce more intense and lasting results

Hi Beth, I ran across your post and while I too share your love for Mike Scioscia, it's because he's really a Dodger at heart!_0

In regards to finding a coach...remember...when the student is ready, the teacher will appear

I'd recommend separate coaches for each of the disciplines you feel you need coaches in, i.e., real estate, mortgage, personal.  They're all different and need different coaches.
