Twitter...we got this LOVE-HATE relationship!

When my friend suggested that I start "twittering" I thought..."how in the world is this thing gonna benefit me in any way?" I mean, all you do is update your friends and associates, perhaps even your co workers and client's of your "goings on" of the day. First off, I didn't think people would care that much about my giving them an hourly, daily or weekly report of what I'm up to. And, for that matter, do I really care that much about what they are up to all the time? So, after weighing the pros and cons, I signed on and played with it for a while. I have now been a loyal "TWITTERER" for a few months and here is what I've discovered I love and hate about it:

LOVE"S

1. It's simple and easy to use.

2. I can actually follow people with my cell phone and not be tied to my computer all day. In fact, I can send "tweets" or messages from my phone as well. So, it's convenient.

3. It's nice to stay in the loop with your favorite celebrity or business without having to check out their website. Whenever their is an important event to announce, you are in the know at once!

4. As long as you are willing to follow others, your follower list will continue to climb at an alarming rate. And people actually pay attention to what you're doing and what you have to say even if they don't know you. Don't believe me? Don't tweet for a couple of weeks. When you do again, you'll hear about it.

5. You can link your Twitter page directly to your website, blog site or other social networking sites such as Facebook. This will expand your exposure and increase your followers.

6. The bottom line is the bottom line. As a business person, drawing traffic to your business is imperative and Twitter offers that opportunity by creating yet another portal for visibility. There is an opportunity to add your http to your Twitter profile so people can instantly connect with your business.

HATE'S

1. Unless you're a celebrity, you probably won't see followers in the quarter million numbers.

2. You are limited to 140 characters when you tweet...hardly enough room to say what you want in one breath.

3. If someone sends you an @reply it is stored without an alert to prompt you that one exists.

4. @replies are not quantified like direct replies are.

5. Twitter Hoggers. I call Hoggers those Twitterers who have nothing better to do than tweet all day...literally. I mean, come on Diddy...is it necessary to tweet 50 times a day? Or maybe, that has a lot to do with his success on Twitter. To date, he is one of the top Twitter users with the highest number of followers!! And those of you who are a fan of any celebrity who "tweets" this often, I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but they have a staff helping them get these messages out. So, often times you are not getting it straight from the horses mouth.
