Watching the movie trailer for ‘Wolverine' coming out in theatres May 1st got me so excited that I felt like a kid again. I've always enjoyed reading the superhero comic books as a kid and now seeing my favorite characters come to life on the big screen is truly a fun and enjoyable experience.
I know I'm not alone with this superhero appreciation because movies like the ‘Dark Knight' ranked in over over $400 million and ‘Iron Man' with $100 million across the U.S.
So what's the fascination with superheroes?
Well, I believe that many of us can relate to the origin of one or many superheroes. Anyone who has ever been bullied could relate to Spider Man. Who has not wished to be Superman, a man above all other men? Or Jean Grey, the most powerful of the X-Men team.
OK, I know you're probably thinking what does this have to do with social media marketing.
Well, I believe that while we would all love to have the kind of super powers we see on the big screen we can in fact become a superhero in social media marketing.
Here's my personal definition of what I call a ‘Social Media Superhero.'
Social Media Superhero
Definition - a person having a distinctive identity, extraordinary or exceptional personal, professional and promotional skills, tools and strong moral code, including a willingness to provide service for the greater good without expectation of reward.
Here are ‘5 Ways to Be a Social Media Superhero'
Superman
Known as ‘The Man of Steel'
More powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. He hides his immortal powers beneath the persona of Clark Kent, a mild-mannered newspaper reporter.
To be a ‘Superman' in Social Media requires having a strong and powerful influence with your social network. With that ‘Power of Influence' a social media ‘superman' exercises great humility and appreciation for his/her influence. He also has a distinctive social "identity" and consistently sets out to do good deeds by way of providing ‘power value' in posts, tweets, links, articles, and tools.
An example of a ‘Superman' in social media is Chris Brogan or Michel Fortin who have very powerful social identities, influence with their social networks, and they both set out to provide ‘power value' on a consistent basis.

Batman
Known as a ‘Vigilante'
Unlike many superheroes, Batman has no superpowers and instead relies on ‘his own scientific knowledge, detective skills, and athletic prowess.' Batman utilizes a large arsenal of specialized gadgets in his war against crime, the designs of which usually share a bat motif.
To be a ‘Batman' in Social Media is all about having the knowledge of tools and gadgets to work your social media strategy. You pay attention to details and seek out or even invent ways to better your social media environment. You're an innovator and a creative thinker that is not afraid to pursue unchartered territory if you believe it will serve the greater good.
An example of a ‘Batman' in social media is Jack Humphrey or Doug Firebaugh who have extensive knowledge of the very best gadgets and tools in social media today. Jack has even created some powerful tools like Blog Talk Monitor with his innovative thinking.

Professor Xavier
Known as ‘Professor X'
Professor Charles Francis Xavier is the leader and founder of the X-Men. His body houses one of the world's most powerful mutant minds. As a high-level telepath, Xavier can read, control and influence human minds.
To be a ‘Professor X' in social media is not about controlling people's minds but instead it's having the ‘power of influence.' This power requires you to be a creative and innovative thinker that expresses thoughts, images, and ideas using social media outlets like blogs, notes, articles, podcasts, and videos. Your content is unique and you have original thinking that influences readers to think at greater levels than ever before. You help expand the mind power of others!
An example of a ‘Professor X' in social media is Seth Godin or Darren Rowse who constantly deliver a new and fresh way of thinking. Their insights and thought process leads you to think from different perspectives and viewpoints. Great minds of social media at work!

Storm
Storm is an extremely powerful human mutant, and has demonstrated a plethora of abilities, most of which are the power to control the weather. Storm's physiology grants her total immunity to extreme weather conditions and has overcome physically stronger foes.
To be a ‘Storm' in social media requires the ability to master and perform exceptionally well in any and all kinds of social media environments like conference calls, interviews, webinars, events, and mastermind meetings. You have complete control over your personal brand and have successfully burst onto the social media scene like a hurricane by building a strong social network in a short period of time.
One of the best examples of a ‘Storm' in social media is Carrie Wilkerson who burst onto the social media scene and cultivated a powerful social network through her passion and love of people. She performs exceptionally in any environment and was recently awarded 'Top Underground Marketer of the Year' at Yanik Silver's Underground 5 event.

Spider-Man has a total of four powers, Spider-Strength, Spider-Speed, Spider-Grip, and Spider-Sense. The combination of these amazing abilities, as well as all of his equipment make him one of the most powerful, dynamic, and undefeatable heroes of all time.
To be ‘Spider-Man' in social media requires the ability to have stickiness to your message and brand. The better you craft your message the better it will stick in the minds of your social network. You also have a good grip on what your social network prefers to receive from you and a keen sense of what I call social awareness.
An example of a ‘Spider-Man' in social media is Carrie Wilkerson also known as the ‘Barefoot Executive' or Yanik Silver known for ‘Maverick Business Adventures' or Mari Smith known for being a ‘ Social Marketing Business Coach'.
