Ypsilanti Michigan is home to Eastern Michigan University and sometimes referred to as the step-child of Ann Arbor. EMU has over 19,000 students in the undergraduate program and 4800 in Graduate School.
EMU is part of the Mid American Conference.
It is a lovely town of a little over 22,000 people. It has become well known for a lot of different summers festivals. One I always attend is the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival held at Riverside Park, along the Huron River. Growing up in Ky, I was always amused my the nickname of YpsiTucky.
Ypsilanti,Michigan aquired that name because of all the automobile workers that came North to work in the automotive industry .A large group of people from Appalachia in Ky migrated to Ypsilanti to work in the factories.
With Ypsilanti being a college town there is always a lot to do. To see a VT of Ypsi ( as refered to by local people ) you can view here. Depot Town is a quainte area of Ypsilanti, with a fabulous restaurant called the Side Track where trains go by during the day. I often take my out of town buyers there to eat, that are moving to Ypsilanti.
