In a Community Organization - To Give or Receive, or Both?

By
Real Estate Agent with Maxfield Real Estate

I am interested in knowing why you participate in community organizations. Is it with the two fold purpose of giving back to the communities you service as a real estate agent and citizen of the community, or is it an important way for you to network for business?

Did you join the garden club, historical society, Lion's Club, etc., etc. first and foremost as a way to garner more business? If so has it helped you with that goal?

I myself have been involved in education and music organizations and have had very little business because of my affiliation within these groups, yet I've only been in real estate for 2.5 years. This in no way minimizes my enjoyment of being a member of these groups, but it does put into perspective for me that the real goal is the good work being done.

As an aside, we at Maxfield Real Estate give a percent of our commission (both broker and agent) to a local not-for-profit agency in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. It is always wonderful receiving the thank you letters back from these organizations telling us that we've made a difference.

Good post. Community means being involved and in small towns, if you don't get involved, it won't get done. It is all home grown. I live music too and as a real estate broker set up to video, we help show the area, the community with video.

Steve one participates in community organizations for the sole purpose of networking, they are missing the point for helping out. Networking is a by-product and should be looked at that way. Good Post!
