OVERVIEW
You may or may not already know that the way we dial local numbers is changing in the next few months. A new area code, 442, will be added to the area currently served by 760. This will be an overlay, meaning that no one with a 760 area code will need to change their number. What it does mean is new numbers assigned will have a 442 area code. And we will need to begin including the area code in all calls we place to both 760 and 442 numbers.
TIMING
Beginning May 2, 2009 we should start including the area code whenever we place a call, including calls to other 760 telephone numbers.
Beginning October 24,2009 we must use the appropriate area code for all calls.
Beginning November 21, 2009 new telephone lines and services may be assigned numbers with the 442 area code.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
Update any programmed seven-digit phone numbers in your speed dialing, fax machines, security systems and gates, etc.
