What is Feng Shui?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Eastside

Feng Shui is the art and science of living in harmony with nature. The word Feng Shui means "wind, water". Wind is the invisible force and water is the visible force.

This symbol is called the yin yang symbol. It is the two primal forces of nature: Hot & cold; dark & light; moon & sun; passive & active; feminine & masculine, heaven & earth. An example of a yin environment is a cozy cabin. A yang environment is light, open, airy, and bright such as in your business, work and the beach.

The goals of Feng Shui is to achieve harmony, unity, and balance in life by using the 5 elements. They are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood.

In a productive and balanced environment, fire creates earth, earth creates metal, metal produce water, water feeds on wood, wood fuel fire.

In Feng Shui, energy is called Chi. Ch'i is the central concept of good Feng Shui. The five elements interaction creates chi or the energy of quantum physics. The flow and accumulation of Chi is the top priority in Feng Shui. By applying Feng Shui one can hope to make a property more marketable, increase one's prosperity, enhances one's health, wealth, and good fortune.

Phiroum: When we think of Feng Sui we expand our consciousness of our interior environments to create harmony. We then therefore begin to think of harmony in all things.

Phiroum, I believe Feng Shui leads us to a better life once we learn to use these elements to create harmony and happiness. Showed houses this week to a japanese couple.  Every house they looked at they walked through with a compass talking about direction.  Apparently it is bad to be south west of the bathroom and kitchen.  Who knows why.

I'm recently been reading a lot about Feng Shui and have been using it in my own home. I feel happier already! Can I join the group if I'm not a home stager?

Hello Phiroum,

I just joined your group. I've been fascinated with Feng Shui for about ten years now. Still consider myself a real amature. I feel I know just enough to make me dangerous. I have attempted some of the more obvious principals to my own place, but am afraid to go further. If I interpret something wrong, and place the wrong element in the wrong location of my home, I am afraid I will do more harm than good. I'm hoping that you will give some hints here, as I firmly believe that Feng Shui works and want to do it right.

Thanks for starting this group.

Aloha Phiroum,

I am glad to be joining this group as Feng Shui has been part of my live for over 35 years now!

My mom is asian & has always had a say in the placement of major furniture in all of the houses Ii lived in. I used to think that she was too supersticious, but in the last 15 years, I have seen more and more people embracing the movement & have read many books on the subject. Now it has just become a part of me. I can't help but evaluate the chi movement in all the properties that I get to see... and I see a lot, being a real estate agent.

I look forward to a great exchange of information among the members of the group!
